Summaries and Customer Reviews are supplied by Amazon.com This anthology of essays from the author’s monthly column, "What's the Matter with Mommy? ... humorous rants on some of the absurdities of modern motherhood" received an extraordinant amount of fan mail soliciting it in book form. only ok | Customer Rating: | | as a SAHM I found that this book had a few funny bits - but overall it was only ok - I immediately donated it to my local library so others wouldn't have to pay for it. instead buy "naptime is the new happy hour" and "sippy cups are not for chardonnay", in my humble opinion... | I Can Totally Relate... | Customer Rating: | | As a SAHM of three years, I relate so much to Kelley Cunningham's "What's the Matter With Mommy?: Rantings of a Reluctant Stay-at-Home Mother." I was looking for a book that would validate my mixed feelings about being a stay-at-home mom as well as acknowledge the struggles I go through in raising my twin toddlers. Her book validated me on the deepest level which allowed me to give up the most hallowed of all mommy character traits: guilt. After reading Cunningham's book I felt welcomed into the "real" mom's club, rather than a fairy-tale and idealistic version of what a mom should be. | HILARIOUS - I want to give it SIX STARS!!!! | Customer Rating: | This book is absolutely hilarious and truly hits home by pointing out the comedy in today's crazy and stressful parenting world! Lately I've been on a kick of reading humorous parenting books and this is BY FAR THE BEST one I've read.
The author's wit and writting style flow from chapter to chapter and had me laughing out loud with almost every page. I originally passed this book up because just from looking at the title -- the phrase "reluctant stay-at-home Mom" made me think the book was about a SAHM wanting to go back into the corporate working world. BUT that is NOT at all what the book is about. The book is about the "adventures" of a stay-at-home Mom of three, and creates tons of laughs by poking fun at over-the-top parents, fancy preschools, annoying playdates, and pregnant belly baring celebrities - just to name a few.
If I had to say something bad about the book -- it would only be that I wish it were longer in length. It's such a great read that I just want it to go on and on. But overall this book is awesome! It's a must read for any overwhelmed mom who needs a little humor in their day! | Like 'The Daily Show' for Moms | Customer Rating: | | Kelly's writing is so hysterically irreverent, her wit is so intelligent, and her humor is so to the next level honest, I absolutely LOVE this book, laugh continuously (and I have a pretty jaded sense of humor), and although I want all of my girlfriends to read this book, I don't want to give it up. I chase my husband around the house reading excerpts from it. I think she should be a writer for one or every sitcom on network television. BUY THIS BOOK. |
