Born mute, speaking only in sign, Edgar Sawtelle leads an idyllic life on his family's farm in remote northern Wisconsin where they raise and train an extraordinary breed of dog. But when tragedy strikes, Edgar is forced to flee into the vast neighboring wilderness, accompanied by only three yearling pups. Struggling for survival, Edgar comes of age in the wild, and must face the choice of leaving forever or revealing the terrible truth behind what has happened. A riveting family saga as well as a brilliant exploration of the limits of language, The Story of Edgar Sawtelle is destined to become a modern classic. "EDGAR SAWTELL" | Customer Rating: | | This audio book was worth every penny spent. To listen to the details was exciting and much better than if I just read the book. Thank you for the chance to review this very interesting audio book. | outstannding writting | Customer Rating: | | this book is for an soul searching for a memorable meaning to ones life. the story soeaks rom the heart but is very mysterious. if you love dogs its amust read. | First start a regime of anti-depressants before reading... | Customer Rating: | | The ending is just too hard to take. So maybe it is the goal of literature to evoke emotion in people, but why the author would go to such lengths to make the book as heart wrenching and depressing as he did...I just can't understand. Read the first 200 pages then make up your own ending. | One of "THE BEST BOOKS" | Customer Rating: | | I thought the book started out slowly, not just an "easy" read, but by the end of the book, I was wishing it would continue for another few hundred pages! Excellent writing style and heart-wrenching story line. Of course, being a dog fan probably influenced my opinion! | Unusual, intriguing - a re-read! | Customer Rating: | | This is not a book that's easily put in a category; it's about dogs, yes, but so much more than that. I found it to be kind of wordy but worth it - I think. Obviously I'm a little confused which states how I felt when I finished. |
