Summaries and Customer Reviews are supplied by Amazon.com Lauded on publication in 1997 as the complete Shakespeare for a new generation of students, this Second Edition of the best-selling Norton Shakespeare introduces new scholarship and editorial features that invite readers afresh to Shakespeare's plays and poems. Stephen Greenblatt's dazzling introduction, updated for the Second Edition, creates a window into the culture of early modern England; Shakespeare's life in the theater; and the businesses of printing, publishing, and textual editing. The works themselves, based on the Oxford edition, are enhanced with lively introductions, all of which have been fine-tuned for the Second Edition, as well as ample glosses, annotations, a textual note, and new annotated bibliographies and filmographies. Andrew Gurr's essay "The Shakespearean Stage," a new timeline, new maps, a glossary of theater and printing terms, contextual documents, and redesigned genealogies provide additional help for readers. New (2nd) Norton is simply the best one volume there is | Customer Rating: | | This edition continues the tradition of excellence from Norton. This book was designed primarily for college students, but as an older amature Shakespearian, I appreciate the background essays and the academic notes. The paper quality and font are very readable despite the size, and having all of the works in one volume is fantastic. This it the one Shakespeare i carry with me when I travel. It's notes serve very well if you are going to see a performance of a play you have not seen in a while or are not familiar with. | The Norton Shakespeare | Customer Rating: | The Norton Shakespeare book I recieved was in slightly worse condition then explain but pretty quick delivery and would but from again.
Thank you for the book! | Complete Shakespeare | Customer Rating: | | This is a really good book. It was everything from Shakespeare. And the plays, poems, sonnets are in the order that they were released. Only negative is that the book is huge. hard to luge it around campus, but over all a complete book. | Wishing for an e-version | Customer Rating: | | The 2nd edition of the Norton Shakespeare is what it is, a second edition. All be it the foward and play introductions have been updated to reflect what has been learned about Shakespeare and his works since the last publication; it's still a heavy tome at 6 pounds. For those of us using this as a text, which is what the Nortan Shakespeare was meant to be, it's a huge burden. The publisher needs to come out with the e-version soon; save our backs, please! | A college must | Customer Rating: | | Most students who have taken any college course on Shakespeare have purchased this book. I purchased one for my Shakespeare class and found myself reading the plays included in the book that weren't even assigned. If you want to get a concise book of Shakespeare's work, this Norton version is the way to go. |
