Summaries and Customer Reviews are supplied by Amazon.com The most trusted resource on becoming a leader is now updated and revised for a new generation. This leadership classic continues to be a bestseller after three editions and twenty years in print. It is the gold standard for research-based leadership, and the premier resource on becoming a leader. This new edition, with streamlined text, more international and business examples, and a graphic redesign, is more readable and accessible than ever before. The Leadership Challenge, Fourth Edition, has been extensively updated with the latest research and case studies, and offers inspiring new stories of real people achieving extraordinary results. The authors' central theme remains the same and is more relevant today than ever: "Leadership is Everyones Business." Their "five practices" and "ten commitments" have been proven by hundreds of thousands of dedicated, successful leaders. This edition, with almost one-third new material, emphasizes the global community and refocuses on business leaders. Leadership in Business | Customer Rating: | | I gave this book four stars because it is well written and very readable, but it is really designed for people interested in business and working in corporations; something I did not realize before I started. I feel like the chapters were a little wordy, but the "summaries" at the end of the chapter are nice. | Excellent Book Review Comments | Customer Rating: | | This is not only a good product, it has been dleivered in a timely and beneficial manner. In fact, I have both just added a second purchase of this book for one of my military friends, and have added it to my future "Gift List" for friends and relatives. | 10 pages of information stretched to 400 | Customer Rating: | | I am convinced that Jossey Bass will publish anything. I don't necessarily disagree with the material, however, it would make a better magazine article rather than a 400-page book. The authors go to an embarassing extreme in order to stretch the material out. See how I just used two sentences to make a single point? Annoying, right? This book uses pages and pages to illustrate rather pedestrian concepts. Ugggh! | A Good Lunestra Substitute | Customer Rating: | Another business professional recommended the "Leadership Challenge" to me. While I appreciate the many interviews in the book with people in industry, the book tends to be very dry and I had a hard time getting through it. The people interviewed in the book have some valuable insights, but the authors' attempt to interpret and conceptualize these insights clouds the material, and in the end, I didn't learn anything from the book. If you're stuck on a deserted island, and this is the only book for your entertainment, I'd recommend suicide as an option.
| On my top five list.... | Customer Rating: | | A number of years ago, the second edition of this book made my list of the five most influential books I've read that have shaped my leadership skills and style. It gets better with every new edition as the authors continue to add new data, new analyses, and new stories to this already powerful work. Many of the "leadership" books I've read contain great vision and theory, but little practicial application. Each time I open this book I find more gems of practical wisdom for turning the theory into impact. |
