Her mother Vivienne Margaux, the powerful head of a major New York theater company has no time for her. But she does have one friend--Michael--and no one can see him but her. But Michael can't stay with Jane forever, and on her eighth birthday, her imaginary friend must leave her.
When Jane is in her thirties, working for her mother's company, she is just as alone as she was as a child. Her boyfriend hardly knows she's there and is more interested in what Vivienne can do for his career. Her mother practically treats her as a slave in the office, despite the great success of Jane's first play, "Thank Heaven." Then she finds Michael--handsome, and just the same as she remembers him, only now he's not imaginary. For once in her life, Jane is happy--and has someone who loves her back. But not even Michael knows the reason behind why they've really been reunited. Absurdly wonderful | Customer Rating: | Is the premise plausible? Of course not! "What if your imaginary friend from childhood was your one true love?" It's printed right on the front of the book. I read it and I was intrigued, and at the same time skeptical. The truth is, once you get past the crazy-sounding premise that imaginary friends actually exist, it is totally believable and so romantic. Patterson has crafted the perfect man as only could be done with an imaginary man. What other man could be so perfect? He's handsome, sexy, compassionate, intelligent, gentle, wise, strong, and a wonderful listener. He does an excellent job of making you believe his fairy tale -- you find yourself immersed in the story and forgetting about the obvious fact that imaginary friends don't actually exist. By the end, you are on the edge of your seat and hoping that everything works out for the unlikely couple. There are a couple of twists and turns, which you kind of have to expect when the prologue of the book is a small snippet of the ending and it doesn't paint a nice picture. To say more would give away too much. This book was an easy read and I found it engrossing. Chick-lit? Absolutely!
This book would make a great movie in my opinion. As I read the book, the scenes played out in my head just like a movie -- a testament to the writing for sure. I couldn't picture anyone but Holland Taylor playing Vivienne Margaux. And for some reason, Carter Oosterhouse came to mind for Michael. Would love to see this book hit the big screen! | Don't waste your time or money. | Customer Rating: | | Nice idea.....terrible book. I kept reading, thinking it would get better and finished it quickly (it's not long & has big print). I know it's a fantasy, but none of it made any sense! None of the characters knew "why" everything was happening to them and when you did get some kind of explaination - it was stupid. I am so glad that I borrowed this book from a girlfriend and will be discussing how much it sucked at book club tonight. | Definitely not one of Patterson's better books! | Customer Rating: | | I'm glad I received this book as a gift. I would be upset if I had actually purchased it! | Slightly Disappointed | Customer Rating: | I'm glad I bought this book at discount price online, it's definitely not worth full retail price.
I loved Patterson's Susanne's Diary to Nicolas and thought Sundays at Tiffany's would be an equally great love story. I finished the book in a day because I liked the first half of the book. Then I was eager to finish it because I wanted to know more about Michael and his "job" and who he was. I waited and waited and WAITED ... I was so disappointed when it was not elaborated and I am still as confused as ever. I know it's a fiction, but still, I wish there was more creativity and closure to Michael's character.
| Beautiful Modern Fairytale | Customer Rating: | | I was surprised after finishing this book on how many negative reviews it got. I devoured it in 5 hours! This is acually the first James Patterson book that I actually finished (I started reading Beach Road, but I didn't care for his writing style). It is a beautiful love story that I could see making a great movie. |
