Summary:
In the summer of 1977, Victoria Leonard's world changed forever—when Caitlin Somers chose her as a friend. Dazzling, reckless Caitlin welcomed Vix into the heart of her sprawling, eccentric family, opening doors to a world of unimaginable privilege, sweeping her away to vacations on Martha's Vineyard, a magical, wind-blown island where two friends became summer sisters. . . .

Now, years later, Vix is working in New York City. Caitlin is getting married on the Vineyard. And the early magic of their long, complicated friendship has faded. But Caitlin has begged Vix to come to her wedding, to be her maid of honor. And Vix knows that she will go—for the friend whose casual betrayals she remembers all too well. Because Vix wants to understand what happened during that last shattering summer. And, after all these years, she needs to know why her best friend—her summer sister—still has the power to break her heart....

Excellent, but drags at the end
Customer Rating:  Score = 4 Score = 4 Score = 4 Score = 4 Score = 4
This has always been a favorite book of mine and I just recently reread it and decided to write a review. The beginning in particular is especially engrossing and easy to read, very interesting and keeps you wanting to read more. However, the end sort of drags along and I find myself just continuing to find out how the brief glimpse of the future that we read in the preface comes to happen. It happens so fast that it is sort of disappointing, and life doesnt end the way you want it to for more than one of the characters. I guess thats how real life is though. Overall its a good book, I wish the excellent beginning would've carried on to the end though. Also, as you read through the summers on the island, its easy to lose track of where you are. The only indication you get that a new summer has begun this chapter, is a year above the first paragraph of the chapter, and if you're anything like me, you werent really paying attention to the previous year anyway.

Timeless classic

I read this book for the first time when I was a sophomore in High School. I loved it then and after reading for the 6th time at age 25 I loved it even more today. A truly amazing story about love, coming of age, friendship and betrayal. The characters are written so well they will make you laugh and cry and I thought about them weeks after finishing the book. I passed this book on to all my friends and eventually my younger sister. I think every girl should read this book. I can not say enough good things about it. It is a MUST read!

A Winner!

I loved reading Judy Blume as an adolescent, and now I can say I love reading her as an adult. This book was very entertaining and fun.

intertwined destiny

this book was a weekend read- once i started i could'nt put it down, set back in the 70's a tale of two girls from different backgrounds and their coming of age experiences. the setting is a place that you are drawn to and once there you feel trapped almost a surreal place. even though i know this book is fiction the details and journey the girls embark on can only end in trajedy and betrayal- there are some sexual references and drug involvement so i would not recommend this book to a minor. in all i would recommend it highly to a person who may have been young during the time in which it takes place, it does follow along to there adulthood and the rites of passage we all face.

Great Summer Read!

This is a great book! I am an avid book reader and this is one of my absolute favorite books of all time. I have read this book at least five times and I know I will read it many more times in the years to come. It's nostalgic, sweet, and timeless. It is a wonderful story of the friendships and heartaches many people go through in their lives.
