Summaries and Customer Reviews are supplied by Amazon.com Colorado psychologist Dr. Alan Gregory must tangle with a beautiful estranged wife, a strange teenaged patient, and a long list of suspects as he tries to solve the mystery surrounding two ""accidental"" deaths. Reprint. K. Beware rogue psychologists | Customer Rating: | This second in the series permits the reader to learn more of Dr. Alan Gregory, a clinical psychologist practicing in Boulder, CO, as he navigates between nearly ex-wife Meredith and new squeeze assistant DA Lauren, advises some very troubled patients, expands his relationship with detective Sam Purdy, and puts his wellbeing at risk as he is drawn into a situation involving multiple deaths.
Little did Alan realize on the day that a husband shot his estranged wife and her lawyer and in turn was killed by police in Diane's, his partner, office that this situation would have ripples into the Boulder psychologist community. His seemingly unrelated treatment of a teenage boy, the sole survivor of a family in an airliner crash, leads to a small, old mining community with a few second-home cabins in the CO mountains that connects a lot of discordant facts that have been uncovered by Purdy and Alan.
This book is a worthy next book to Privileged Information, the author's first in this series. As some have noted, there is character creep, but the book is fairly fast paced and pretty much comes together in the end. Alan is an appealing character who shares rudiments of psychotherapy with the reader while demonstrating his own limitations in his personal life. He seems like the sort of character in an engaging setting who can support a long and interesting series. | A good yarn | Customer Rating: | This was my second book by White and I found it to be very good. The storyline was interesting and I couldn't figure out the plot. It kept me very well entertained.
I liked the fact that even though it was a mystery, the personal life of the main character was made mention of. It made me feel that I really knew him. I plan on buying all of Mr. White's books. | PRIVATE PRACTICES | Customer Rating: | What an avalanche of catastrophes occur when a simple albeit important rule is ignored in this 2nd book of the Dr. Alan Gregory series.
There were a whole mess of characters and incidences to keep track of, and about half way through I got the feeling that I should have been annotating all along to keep them all straight. However, in the end, it all came together perfectly.
I think it's neat how Stephen White can write a compelling mystery and at the same time teach his readers about some of the ethical and legal issues concerned with the psychotherapy profession.
Good book! | SERVICEABLE SUSPENSE NOVEL..................... | Customer Rating: | Alan Gregory is a Boulder psychotherapist with a stunning soon-to-be ex-wife and an equally stunning girlfriend. The highlight of his life appears to be the tug-of-war going on between the two women, until a hostage situation involving his good friend and business partner ends with murder. Worse yet, the danger doesn't stop there; and when Alan's own patient becomes the subject of a murder investigation, it falls to him to prove his patient's innocence. Somewhat of a disappointment, the storyline was to me at times complex and somewhat confusing. I had some difficulty keeping all of the characters straight, and really liked no one in the book. If edge-of-your seat action and suspense is what you are looking for, you won't find it here.
DYB | Second Installment Even Better than the First | Customer Rating: | | This is the second book by Stephen White in the Alan Gregory series. This one is full of twists and turns and seemingly unrelated plots that come together in unexpected ways. The recurring characters are well developed and not just window dressing. I look forward to reading more in the series. |
