For those of you who aren't familiar with the HESI, my Nursing School requires us to pass the HESI Exit Exam before graduating and taking the NCELX-RN. Some say the HESI is harder than the NCLEX, and some say that HESI is a good predictor of whether you pass NCLEX. Regardless though, I thought this was a very good review book.
I especially like the CD-ROM that comes with it. Unlike other review CD's, this CD allows you more flexibility in combining different topic areas making review more efficient. For example, if I had problems with Cardiac and Safety. I could program the CD to give me a 25 question quiz on just those two topics alone. I could never find any other CD like that! Usually, I can only combine topics from content area or from the Nursing Process alone on many other CD's. I found this to be a very useful feature especially considering that I would rather focus my attention on these two topics alone or any topic say for 1 or 2 weeks.
I thought the content of the book was really useful; however, it didn't provide the comprehensive description of diseases that Saunders had. Despite that though, it did provide more material than Saunders, and still in a very comprehensive format...just not as good as Saunders in my honest opinion.
Also, the questions in this book and on the CD-ROM are very hard unlike the Saunders Comprehensive Review CD. Personally, I found the questions on this Hogan CD to be very challenging and along the same level of difficulty as the HESI test. The questions allowed me to see the topics I was studying in a different light..definitely challenging and definitely instrumental in helping me pass HESI.
Excellent book! | Prentice Hall Reviews & Rationales Comprehensive NCLEX RN | Customer Rating: | | This book is a great supplement while you are in nursing school. Class exams are given in NCLEX format and the rationales help nail down the reason for the "most correct" answer. I use it as a study aid when preparing for exams. If you are a first semester student, I advise you purchase this book. | Super book for NCLEX-RN | Customer Rating: | | I found this book is very interesting and useful. It give the view from another angle than Saunders Comprehensive Review by Silvestri. There is another grouping themes and it based on NCLEX-RN from April 2007. Question's stylistics another too. I purchased this book after book of Silvestri, and I hope that these two books will help me to pass exam NCLEX-RN in Israel on September 2008. |
