Simon Stafford, the Technical Editor to the Nikon Owners’ Club International’s Nikon Owner magazine, tells all about the company’s new semi-pro camera, the D300. He explains how to make the most of the model’s up-to-the-minute attributes, including the 12.3 effective megapixel Nikon DX-format CMOS image sensor with integrated A/D converter and the increased bit precision of selectable 14-bit NEF (RAW) output. Not Ready for Prime Time | Customer Rating: | This is the first of many Magic Lantern camera books I've read over the years that I have been disappointed in. First, there are many, many typos and grammatical errors. Many references to numbered icons (that presumably should have printed with the actual icon) that as an icon number made no sense. This book is a rehash of the D200 book (which is ok) but there are several (incorrect) references to D200 functionality that wasn't rewritten to describe the D300. From an editing standpoint, this book is an embarrassment!
But like all the Magic Lantern Guides, this book does offer a great deal of useable information. In terms of benefit, I'd rate this about half way between reading the Nikon manual and reading a well-written and informative book about this great camera. | ml for d300 | Customer Rating: | | this brand of books have always been better than the inst.books that come with the camera.very easy to understand.with explanations why they say do things a certain way.recomend highly | Long, as always, but very clear and organized | Customer Rating: | | A long, complicated manual for a complicated camera! As always, well written and well organized. Worth the money and the time you will spend. With this and Hogans book you'll be set. | incomplete update from D200 version of same book | Customer Rating: | Alas, this book reads like a hurried update of the D200 guide. In fact, there is at least one typo in the book that describes the "D200" instead of the D300 -- and not as a comparison.
The book also falls short in de-mystifying camera-specific D300 topics like long exposures. For example, I wanted to take some night shots and could not find any complete description of how to use the Bulb setting. I ended up going back to the Nikon D300 manual.
The book contains some useful photography tips, otherwise I would have rated it even lower.
Had I bought it from Amazon, I would have returned this book. | GETS TO THE POINT | Customer Rating: | | Provided just what I was looking for - information for the beginner, but also info for the experienced dSLR (Nikon) user. Technical info available for those who need it. Not a book for beginners who need basic photography advice in addition to the nuts & bolts of the D300. |
