mostly black and white and stark
| Customer Rating: | | What all the critics who praise this book don't tell you, is that it's mostly (90% of it) done in black and white. The cover is misleading, this is for someone who's into Ansel Adams-type of photography. I'm an amateur photographer with some of my photgraphs having been published, but it's only color I can really relate to. I admit that some of the photos might have had the potential to turn out great if only they had been color shots. That's about all I can say because my active vocabulary is limited ! |

| Customer Rating: | | This is just a gorgeous book. We saw the exhibit at the Palm Springs Art Museum on which it is based, and the book lives up to the exhibit. It's a beautifully photographed (of course -- Shulman does amazing things with light and contrast) retrospective of Desert Mid-Century Modern, and Alan Hess provides his usual informative commentary. A must-have for Desert Modern enthusiasts! |
