My first IT PM book but certainly not my last | Customer Rating: | While working on my degree in Information Systems Management, this book was required reading. Though that was two editions ago, I look back fondly at this book being my first project management related book. Even after getting my PMP, I still think it was very well presented. This 5th edition is no different. Upon reviewing a copy, the author has stayed current and done an excellent job.
For those who are just getting their feet wet, I would certainly recommend reading this book and doing the exercises. Even if you don't want to be a project manager, if you use MS Project, this will help you. The author demonstrates project management methodology very well through the practical utilization of a trial copy of MS Project, included with the book.
Regards, Derek Huether, PMP | IT Project Management | Customer Rating: | | I don't like the topic - it was a course requirement. However, the book was organized well and easier to understand for entry level students. | PM | Customer Rating: | | Turned out to be a great book with a lot of great information. Extremely needed as a reference if you are going into the PM workforce. | Excellent resource for every IT Project Manager | Customer Rating: | | I have purchased the fourth and fifth editions of this book and find them as great resources both for academic studies and as tools to be used in the real world for project management through every stage of the project development lifecycle. The examples in the text are real scenarios and help to provide a good understanding on the issues with PM and how to overcome many challenges with Project Management within an organization. | First and best IT PM book | Customer Rating: | Information Technology Project Management is the first book any technical project manager should read. It does a great job of laying out the challenges and tools of technical PM. It provides practical common sense examples as well as good historical anecdotes. This book has no fluff and no superfluous chapters, it's all meat. Even if you have been doing PM for years, this book has something to offer.
Reading and understanding this book cover to cover will get you half way to your PMP certification. You will need to get a PMBOK or a PMP study guide and spend another 2 - 3 months of study. But this book is absolutely the right place to start. |
