Summaries and Customer Reviews are supplied by Amazon.com This book introduces information systems and their underlying technologies to readers, laying a solid foundation of knowledge before discussing their use and management. Chapter topics cover hardware, software, database, and networking technologies; Internet and World Wide Web technologies; using information systems for electronic business, decision making, and business integration; managing information systems for strategic advantage; managing the development and purchase of information systems; and managing security, disaster recovery, and data retention. For individuals interested in a career in business, with an interest—but little or no knowledge of—information systems and the field of IT. Horrible, Expensive Textbook | Customer Rating: | I cannot fathom why this textbook is used to teach students about Information Systems Technology. The format is bothersome and information contained within the book is inaccurate.
The author describes MIPS as the overall speed of a computer. This is erroneous. MIPS is a measurement of raw processor power, and the overall speed of a PC is not measured in MIPS.
It has tacky business examples. In fact, it is business heavy but lacks updated business techniques and lacks in relevant examples.
The writer needs to do his fact checking. Does he even work in the IT Industry? | Drivel | Customer Rating: | | This book tries to be all things to all people and fails miserably. To charge $140+ for this book should be illegal. Somewhere in the $6-$8 dollar range would be more appropriate. | Feel sorry for anyone who has to take this class | Customer Rating: | | The book is OK but the story they use for a business idea is horrible. Only read if you have to. |
