Summaries and Customer Reviews are supplied by Amazon.com For more than two decades, Health Law: Cases, Materials and Problems has defined the field of health law, providing a balanced overview of law as it affects patients, professionals, institutions, and entities that deliver and finance U.S. health care. Health Law comprehensively treats topics concerns such as the oversight of quality (including the latest developments in patient safety), cost control (including consumer-directed health care), guarantees of adequate access to services, exempt-organization tax issues, transactions and relationships among health care professionals and providers, the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), and malpractice litigation. Written without a policy bias to fairly reflect all viewpoints, the book considers legal and ethical issues involving death, human reproduction, medical treatment decision making, and medical research. It also explores the government's efforts to control costs and expand access through Medicare and Medicaid and examines government attempts to police anticompetitive activities, fraud, and abuse. Using carefully edited primary materials and effective classroom-tested problems, the book exposes students to the core issues in health law. great purchase | Customer Rating: | | great purchase ... came in perfect condition and quickly ... exceeded my expectations! | Review of Health Law: Cases and Materials | Customer Rating: | | This book offers a comprehensive review of various issues in Health Law. It covers topics ranging from ERISA to Stem Cell Research. The authors did a great job researching each topic but did not really organize the information efficiently. They could have done a better job of using more extensive and topic organized notes sections after cases to explain complex issues like ERISA preemption or embryo parental rights. As a result, many times I felt the cases were compiled without really allowing the reader to understand the significance of each case with respect to the topic at hand. | NEVER GOT THIS ITEM | Customer Rating: | | And Was never refunded for the purchase price of this book!!! | No better guide to today's health news | Customer Rating: | | Health news today is increasingly dominated by legal issues - pharmaceutical torts, end of life lawsuits, Medicare and Medicaid reform efforts, etc. This book will educate you to the level of expert - feel disdain at the idiots discussing tort reform! Laugh at ignorant talking heads who seek to sway you with their flash-card analysis! Seriously though, this one volume will teach you more than a lifetime of Linda Greenhouse columns. | Excellent & Comprehensive! | Customer Rating: | | This text is indispensible and required reading for anyone interested in health law. The book gives an in-depth overview of issues and problems that currently exist in this interesting area of law. As a law student, this book was very useful in providing concise portrayals of issues facing the health industry from all angles, not just legal perspectives. I would also suggest this book to anyone who wants to get their feet wet in health law. It is a bit advanced, so if one is just starting out, the language may be confusing and require a dictionary. Otherwise, it is highly recommended. |
