Good Start | Customer Rating: | | Although it is written in a rather patronising tone, this little book is nevertheless a good overview of neurological issues that are faced in psychiatry. By no means an exhaustive textbook in neurology, it presents a reasonable starting point for many topics. Some of the ilustrations are very good, however others (such as the fMRI's and PET's) would have been better presented in colour. Some topics are out of date (eg the chapter on epilepsy) but gives a good overview. | A must have for every psychiatrist! | Customer Rating: | | A solid foundation in neurology is important for every psychiatrist. This book serves as an excellent resource to gain this foundation. | Simply wonderful | Customer Rating: | I'm a medical student doing my thesis in psychiatry and with a long history of not memorizing neurology very well.
This book helps a lot in that it allows you to create a picture in your mind of how the "classical" patient with a given disorder looks like. I had just read about cluster headaches and the next day in my neurology rotation I saw a patient with one because I recognized him to match the picture in my book. I ended up being complimented for me "diagnostic skills".
The stylized pictures of "classical patients" go a long way in helping you, much more than Netter's, especially if you are a visual learner. If you want a bullet point description of neurological disorders stay away from this book. | Excellent review for ABPN Boards | Customer Rating: | | This book is used by psychiatry residents across the country to review for the ABPN Boards, and it is easy to understand why. Kaufman provides a thorough, yet concise and clinically relevant summary of clinical neurology accompanied by hundreds of review questions to consolidate the reader's knowledge. There are plenty of visual aids including cross-sections of the brainstem and drawings of classic physical findings. Overall, an enjoyable read! | OUTSTANDING | Customer Rating: | | Clinical neurology for psychiatry assist psychiatrists very well for the part 1 of the ABNP .This book is sufficiently detailed, and contain relevant material, and also completely comprehensive .Great book....! |
