The current science of pharmacology-and its clinical applications-at your fingertips Now in its 25th year of publication, Basic and Clinical Pharmacology is the most up-to-date and complete pharmacology textbook available. Through nine previous editions it has set the standard for concise and easy-to-read, yet comprehensive coverage of pharmacology. The text's integration of basic with clinical science makes it well suited for an integrated organ-system-based curricula as well as the more traditional curricula. Features In-depth coverage of key pharmacology topics, from basic principles to pharmacologic considerations for autonomic, cardiovascular-renal, smooth muscle, CNS, endocrine, antimicrobial, and chemotherapeutic and immunotherapeutic drugs Updated with dozens of new, recently approved drugs, including monoclonal antibodies Detailed review of the mechanism of action and toxicities of traditional and newer drugs Critical discussions of treatment strategies and recommended drugs for all major diseases Valuable section on toxicology that provides an introduction to occupational and environmental toxicology; heavy metal intoxication and chelators; and management of the poisoned patient Ready-to-use, study-enhancing features, including special interest boxes, lists of common preparations, and dosage information Unique evidence-based chapters on abused drugs; special aspects of perinatal, pediatric, and geriatric pharmacology; and over-the-counter drugs, herbal medications, and nutritional supplements More than 500 concept-clarifying illustrations and tables throughout Good reference, not for teaching | Customer Rating: | | I'm a medical student, currently taken pharmacology during my pre-clinical years and i don't recommend this textbook. Its voluminous, poorly written, and not logically organized. Its really only good as reference book and that's it. If you want to learn pharmacology buy a Lippincotts Illustrated review of pharmacology or Golans principle of pharmacology! | Great book | Customer Rating: | | Prompt delivery and book came in new, although the packaging was very messed up. Could possibly stuff the package to prevent damage. Satisfied with my order though - thanks. | Still the Best Basic Text | Customer Rating: | | Over the years I have purchased many editions of this classic text and have never been disappointed. Years ago I sat in Dr. Katzung's classes when he was a young man (and I was younger!) This book is invaluable because of its varied content--1. background physiology which is so important when one needs to review and keep up-to-date on new developments, 2. comparisons of chemical structures as new products come onto the market and 3. summary tables showing the different characteristics of the various drugs in any drug group and classification. This is the one clinical pharmacology text I wouldn't be without. | A tough read | Customer Rating: | | This is one of those books where you have to read a paragraph again and again to actually get what it's saying. It's got great topics, if you can sift through the words! I don't love the writing style. | Basic & Clinical Pharmacology | Customer Rating: | While most of my students would not find this excellent work "basic", it is an outstanding adjunct to any healthcare professional's library. The chapters are well structured and the information is up to date. The illustrations have improved over the years and are mated well with the text. In all, this is a worthwhile text for anyone studying pharmacology or a useful resource. |
