| Summaries and Customer Reviews are supplied by Amazon.com Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., is known for being one of the greatest orators of the 20th Century, and perhaps in all of American history. In the 1950s and 1960s, his words led the Civil Rights movement and helped change society. Although he is best-known for helping achieve civil equality for African Americans, these speeches show that his true goal was much larger than that: he hoped to achieve acceptance for all people, regardless of race or nationality. This volume features the landmark speeches of his career including: I Have a Dream; his acceptance speech for the Nobel Peace Prize; Beyond Vietnam, a powerful plea to end the conflict; and his eulogy for the young victims of the Birmingham church bombing. Though the speeches refer to the conditions of the 1960s, his assertions that non violent protest is the key to democracy and that all humans are equal, are as timeless and powerful today as they were nearly forty years ago. Also featured in this text are introductions from world-renowned defenders of civil rights. Average Customer Rating: Very inspirational | Customer Rating: | | My parents and I have listened to all the CDs with the greatest enthusiasm over and over again. The quality is pretty good and the speeches are not extracts, but played in full. Barring few, I have found most of the introductions to be very informative and well presented. I am glad this collection includes both of Dr King's most famous "I have a Dream" and "I've been to the Mountaintop" speeches - I had noticed that most audio tapes include only one or the other, or both in extract form. I would certainly recommend this to anyone interested in great speeches. Also, one may access American Rhetoric website for the transcripts of these speeches to follow with the powerful voice of Dr King. | American that neede change | Customer Rating: | | this is by far the greatest speeches made by dr.martin luther king jr, that change america by far every true american should have a copy of it. i enjoy listening to it over and over again, | An Excellent Resource | Customer Rating: | I really enjoyed listening to the authentic voices of Dr. King and others on this CD.
