BFG? Bellowing ferret-faced golfer? Backstabbing fairy godmother? Oh, oh ... Big Friendly Giant! This BFG doesn't seem all that F at first as he creeps down a London street, snatches little Sophie out of her bed, and bounds away with her to giant land. And he's not really all that B when compared with his evil, carnivorous brethren, who bully him for being such an oddball runt. After all, he eats only disgusting snozzcumbers, and while the other Gs are snacking on little boys and girls, he's blowing happy dreams in through their windows. What kind of way is that for a G to behave? The BFG is one of Dahl's most lovable character creations. Whether galloping off with Sophie nestled into the soft skin of his ear to capture dreams as though they were exotic butterflies; speaking his delightful, jumbled, squib-fangled patois; or whizzpopping for the Queen, he leaves an indelible impression of bigheartedness. (Ages 9 to 12) | Average Customer Rating: Fun read My son and I are only half way through so far, but we are really enjoying it! Alyssa from Lake Tapps says,"Very cute!" Imagine what it would feel like being kidnapped by a giant and never being able to go back home ever again. Well that's what happened to Sophie when she spots a giant through her window in the book the BFG by Roald Dahl. It's a book filled with adventure between Sophie and the giant. In the book the giant takes Sophie to the giant country. When Sophie found out that the giant isn't that bad of a guy Sophie and the giant got to be good friends. He takes her dream catching and shows her snozzcumbers and frobscottle but when they find out that the bloodbottler giants are going to England to gobble up some people for dinner they have to spring in to action and save the day. My favorite part of the book is when the giant shows Sophe snozzcumbers. I thought that part was funny because the giant takes a bite of the snozzcumber and spits it everywhere. The most important thing I learned from this book is don't judge a person by what they look like. Also known as don't judge a book by its cover. Other books by this author are James and the giant peach, Charlie and the chocolate factory, and fantastic mr. fox. I recommend this book because it's full of adventure and fun. This is a book revolved around friendship so you should check it out at your library soon because your missing out big time on a great book.
Another one of Dahl's great books!! "Frobscottle", "Snozzcumber", and "Gobblefunk" are all words used by Roald Dahl that can found in The BFG. This book is a children's fictional book best suitable for children ages 9-12, but can be enjoyed by many because of its funny language, fantasy settings, and loveable characters. Sophie, an orphan girl in England, spots a giant peeking into windows at night during "the witching hour". The Big Friendly Giant (BFG) hears Sophie with his large ears and swifts her off to Giant Country. When Sophie arrived at Giant Country, a fictional country created, she found out about the nine other giants. Due to her findings there, she and the BFG embark on a mission to England to save the children of the world. The Big Friendly Giant was different from the other giants because he did not eat children; instead he wanted the best for them. He would catch dreams and blow them to children while they slept. The BFG's appearance was also different from the other giants; he was shorter and dressed different. Sophie a young optimistic, open minded girl makes the best of her situation with the BFG. Though she and the BFG were different, they were passionate about their plan and executed it. Both characters provide young readers with a message to be true to themselves and not become a victim of peer pressure. The BFG is another one of Dahl's children books that allow an outlet for children to escape into a fantasy world with hidden morals. With his fun and light hearted writing techniques he makes potential heavy topics easy for children to cope with such as, giants, death, and nightmares. He created his stories for his own children teaching them that good prevails evil, which can be seen throughout his collection of children books. We feel that this read is suitable for children and adults who enjoy fantasy stories and who are able to escape from reality and enter an imaginary world. With Dahl's hidden morals this book could be read and discussed with preteens to raise awareness about the importance of peer pressure. Though we see the hidden morals, children may not be able to see them and will think of The BFG as a fun read.
Loved this book! I read this book over 15 years ago in elementary school, and I loved it!! This is one of the only books I remember from back then, and I would def recommend it for children to read. What a book!!!!! Bfg by roald dahl is a comic novel. It is filled with fantasy characters like giants. The book is about an orphanage girl {sophie} and a giant. There are 7 giants in giant world. 6 eat human "beans"{beings} and 1 eats veggies{the BFG}. The BFG kidnaps Sophie. They find that the other 6 giants will plan to eat the queen of England. Read the book to find out how they stop the giants. I loved it so much I could not stop reading it. But best of all, it's hilarious.
