I loved this book
I bought this and i absolutely loved it. i have been watching her show as well and i loved it. This is a great book for anyone who likes fashion.
Not useful as a style guide, but good for a laugh
I generally love style and fashion books, and have several. It's always good to pick up new tips on how to put together a great outfit or get ideas for rediscovering things from your own closet you can use in a new or different way.
I have seen maybe one or two episodes of Rachel Zoe's show on Bravo and I wasn't impressed. But I did know she is a big-time Hollywood stylist, and so when I found a copy of this book for $.99 at a clearance book sale, I thought, what the hey.
Well, this book is more or less useless as a style guide. But if you are in the mood for a laugh, this book definitely delivers. Here are some of the things I found funny:
1. The book is basically all about Zoe's fabulous life as a fabulous stylist to fabulous stars, and the book is filled with pictures of her with various famous (or usually quasi-famous) people. The hilarious thing is that in most of the pictures, it looks like she tacked herself on to the edge of a group just before the picture was taken, or jumped in front of the camera just as the flash went off. With the more famous people, they aren't all "posed" together - usually the famous person is looking one direction, and Zoe is looking at the camera. There aren't very many pictures where the Big Star looks all that happy that Zoe's in the picture. I used to work in entertainment (although not in Hollywood) and these don't look like the kinds of pictures friends of celebrities display in their offices - they look like photos of opportunities Zoe found to put herself in the spotlight. Plus, in every picture, Zoe either has the same vacant toothy smile, or vacant stare. I think it's probably time to dial down the Botox, Rachel, especially as it's not working. Which leads me to my second point:
2. Zoe is, of course, the proponent of the "tanorexic" movement that so many starlets (like Nicole Ritchie, basically famous for being famous at this point) adhere to. And boy, with Rachel, you can see why so many dermatologists have conniption fits over people tanning. She has more lines on her face than my 60-year-old mother. There are several photos where her skin looks like a greasy, creased paper grocery bag. I hope young women who read this guide will take Zoe's appearance for the warning it is, and stay the heck out of the sun, so they don't end up with the "25-year-old handbag" look. And for the record - too thin + too tan + over 35 just makes you look old, it doesn't make you look hot. Which leads me to my third point:
3. I realize this book was written before Lindsay Lohan's problems with substance abuse hit a crisis point. But the constant mentions of "Miss Lindsay" and the multiple photos of Zoe and Lindsay together provide more unintentional hilarity. Seen any recent pictures of Lindsay Lohan? Her face is a testament to the degradations of excess. Way too many late nights, bad nutrition, an overabundance of drugs and cocktails, and too much tanning has left Lohan looking like a 45-year-old at 24. Zoe and Lohan may have a life full of "fabulousness" and "glamour," but as my husband says, all the makeup in the world can't cover up the effects of years of hard living. Partying incessantly may be fun for awhile, but go on too long and you'll wear the effects of it on your face and body for the rest of your life.
There are some semi-useful tips for traveling and also for preparing for big nights out, but mostly the whole book is a pretentious, tedious testament to how great Zoe thinks she is, how many expensive baubles she has, and how many famous people she's hung out with. Tim Gunn's guide to style is about a zillion times more helpful and much less annoying to read - so if you're looking for real advice, get that, not this. But if you want to know how to look "Hollywood" for a party or vacation, this might have some useful info. Just don't do what Rachel Zoe and Lindsay Lohan have done, and make it into a lifestyle. Ending up in rehab, jail, or the facelift clinic by age 40 is not something any fabulous young woman should aspire to.

I really enjoyed reading Rachel Zoe's book! It's perfect for people, who love celebrities and fashion.
More self-absorbed than helpful!
I will admit that there are some tidbits of good advice in this book. However, the useful tips are mixed in with random tips based on Ms. Zoe's personal preferences. And even that is buried in a lot of discussion about what it means to live glamorously and how glamorous Ms. Zoe's life is and names of all the celebrities she works with and all of the places she's been. She does state several times that you don't have to have a lot of money to be able to have style and live glamorously, but that claim alone is not any help. If you'd like to know more about Ms. Zoe's own lifestyle, this is a great book. However, if you have ever wished you had a team of stylists like celebrities do to help you look your best, this doesn't come close to helping you become your own stylist. Yes, I should have been warned by the fact that the author's name is in the title - I just figured there are only so many titles style books can have, and this was clever. Really, it's just a clue that it's about Rachel Zoe's life and personal style, nothing more.
Even though still I dont have it, I know it's great!
I've been looking for this book, since a long time ago and I finally found it!!!
I cant wait to have it and start enoying it!
Thks guys!
