Customer Reviews:Average Customer Rating: A Spectacular Collection Here is a spectacular collection of Grimms' fairy tales. Complete and wondrous, this translation is clean and haunting. There must be hundreds of tales complied here that I hadn't even heard of before, it's wonderful. The perfect collection to complete any library. The Complete Fairy Tales of the Brothers Grimm All-New Third Edition this book is amazing story book, very complete classic tales. The translation is easy to understand. I recommend this book to parent have little child. BED LECTURE AT IT'S BEST: FAIRY TALES As I know from other seniors, the Tales by the Grimm Brothers made it long ago to the U.S.A.; they was told to from grand parents and parents to their kids and grand children, in English and even in German before and during WW1 and WW2. Some of them made it to great Walt Disney productions. And some of them were censored and published for schools as new editions. Grim, grimmer, grimmest I love spooky stuff, and I love fairy tales. This book is great and a favorite of mine for a lot of reasons, but more than anything, I like the frankness of the original stories, and the effect it has on my psyche while reading it. What better way to keep kids in line than to expose them to a little bit of the ugly side of the real world? This book does that, but without being overbearing, or preachy. Some of the stories are short, some are long. Some have a moral or a positive ending, some serve no clear purpose and end horribly. ("Then she and her accomplice were put aboard a ship peppered with holes and sent out to sea, where they soon sank beneath the waves." The end.) There are not a lot of illustrations in this book, which is neither here nor there. This is just a fun, interesting little book that can be enjoyed by both adults and children. If you are looking for a companion volume to learn even more about the Grimms and their stories, check out The Annotated Brothers Grimm. All the classics and then some! This is a fantastic collection - a must have for any home library. I just wish it was hardbound! I really think that's all that needs to be said. | | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
