Customer Reviews:Average Customer Rating: Pharmacology for Basic Sciences This is an good book to use along with the Principles of Pharmacolgy text book. The questions are useful because they ensure that you have an indepth understanding of pharmacology, but the majority of questions are not representative of STEP style questions. I would use this book during Basic Sciences but not during preparation for STEP...see my review on the text book that accompanies this workbook for more information. not impressed I was expecting more of a generalized review of each chapter and this book is more case study. I found it took more time to do this book than to reread the chapters. Out of our whole class only two have the book. I returned it. But if you have lots of time, you may like it. Principles of Pharmacology Workbook and Text I am a nursing student who is very unimpressed with both the LPN and RN pharm books. They lack detail on the mechanism of action, which forces the student to memorize rather than understand the actions and side effects of the various drugs. I purchased both the textbook and the workbook of "Principles of Pharmacology, 2nd edition" based on the reviews of others, and I have to say "Thank You." Finally a book that gives more answers than questions. Unlike other books, this book takes the student inside of the cell. It uses clear and thorough descriptions that are accompanied by many illustrations. It is not a quick reader, but one that is well worth the time for someone who wants to know the "why" and "how" of drug absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion. The material is also well presented in clinical situations to help bridge theory with practical application. This book will make you think! The workbook is loaded with realistic case study scenarios that challenge the student to connect the patient's S/S, lifestyle, and PMH with their current Rx or needed Rx. And yes, the answers along with the rationale are in the back of the book. A+ Outstanding workbook for an excellent textbook. This is a great companion for an excellent textbook. Just get this book as soon as possible! This review is simply a copy of my evaluation of the main book, "Principles of Pharmacology: The Pathophysiologic Basis of Drug Therapy", 2e by D.
