Summary:
Nursing Care Plans, 6th Edition is the most comprehensive nursing care planning book on the market, with 183 care plans covering the most common nursing diagnoses and clinical problems in medical-surgical nursing. It reflects the most current clinical practice and professional standards in nursing and presents the content in an easy-to-use, reader-friendly format. The book functions as two books in one, with one section including a collection of nursing diagnosis care plans and the other providing a library of disease/disorder care plans that serve as models of care planning for the most common medical diagnoses, medical procedures, and psychosocial conditions seen in nursing practice.
Includes the most extensive array of care plans found in any nursing care planning book, with 62 nursing diagnosis care plans and 121 disease/disorder/procedure care plans, for a total of 183.
The nursing diagnosis care plan format includes a NANDA definition, a brief explanation of the diagnosis, related NOC outcomes and NIC interventions, related factors, defining characteristics, expected outcomes, ongoing assessment, and therapeutic interventions.
The disorders care plan format includes synonyms for the disorder (for ease in cross referencing), a clear and succinct definition of the disorder, related factors, defining characteristics, expected outcomes, NIC interventions and NOC outcomes, ongoing assessment, and therapeutic interventions for each relevant nursing diagnosis.
Eye-catching icons distinguish collaborative from independent interventions.
Covers adult lifespan issues and issues related to various healthcare settings to equip nurses for a broad range of practice settings, from hospital to home.
Provides an alphabetical list of NANDA diagnoses inside the front cover.
Includes new disease/disorder care plans for SARS, Lyme disease, West Nile virus, and obstructive sleep apnea.

NIC and NOC classifications reflect the latest editions of Nursing Interventions Classification and Nursing Outcomes Classification.

An expanded Evolve website now features 18 Bonus Care Plans.
The revised Online Care Plan Constructor includes the four new nursing diagnosis care plans and offers enhanced functionality, allowing users to save created care plans and export them to their word processing program.

Wonderful Resource
Customer Rating:
This book is great. It is logically organized, clearly written, and includes just about everything a nurse needs to think about when learning how to take care of a wide variety of patient conditions. Highly recommended.
Will save nursing students time and energy
Customer Rating:
I used to spend so much time and energy on my care plans. I tried to make my diagnoses, goals, outcomes, interventions, rationales etc. as accurate and precise as possible and that used to take so much of my time. I find care plans difficult to write because each professor I have had grades them a little differently and has different expectations for our work. With this book, I feel much more confident about my care plans and I am spending only a fraction of the time that I used to. I really wish I had known about this when I was starting nursing school.
The best thing about this book is that there are 63 care plans based on NANDA nursing diagnoses, and then there are another 121 care plans for specific diseases. So whether your patient has a specific disease such as rheumatoid arthritis, or if you would rather focus on their complaint of pain for example, it will help you tailor a care plan to suit them. In the disease care plans, there are multiple nursing diagnoses that you can choose from, and then goals, outcomes, assessments, etc. I found it to be very straightforward and user friendly, and so much better than the online care plan constructor that I used to use.
GREAT TOOL!

I recently ordered this care plan book and it has already helped significantly! Do yourself a favor and get this book before you start doing care plans! I might have gotten 4 hours of sleep instead of 1 if I had this book for my first care plan assignment!!
its ok
Customer Rating:
I have two care plan books this one is required by the school. I think its ok for some of med-surg but as for physic, OB and peds its limited. If you are able to find a fitting nursing diagnosis then it's helpful but even then interventions are very basic. I bought the all-in-one care plan book this year and am happy with it but I think having both of then is the best way to go if u can afford it.
A must Have for every nursing student
Customer Rating:
I'm a RN student in an accelerated BSN program and am currently finishing up my Med-Surg I class. This book made creating my care plans extremely easy. It has a lot of interventions and evidence-based rationales for each intervention, with special ones for pediatrics, geriatrics and home care as well as patient teaching. It is very helpful and I used it in conjunction with another book "Nursing Diagnosis Handbook" by Ackley. I highly recommend having more than one book. Many of my classmates have the Ackley book too but often ask to borrow my Gulanick book for add'l interventions, because Gulanick has them organized by disease/condition instead of by NDx. Both these books are worth every penny.
