Dr. Preston is second to none when it comes to providing a clear understanding over an incredibly complex topic. He has a true gift in being able to convey a wealth of information in an extremely short period of time. I have found this text to be a very useful quick reference in both my daily practice as well as when supervising. I recommend it to all my supervisees as I know of no other resource that can cover psychopharmacology with such brevity without intimidating the reader nor missing out on essential details. Highly recommended to any therapist at any level.

What I found most interesting about "Clinical Psychopharmacology Made Ridiculously Simple" was that it did not fit into any of the categories I inferred from the reviews. At first it appeared it might be a pseudo "Idiot's Guide to Psychopharmacology "-complete with cartoon diagrams or at least, clever and enticing text; in summary, an entertaining book at a minimum, leaving one satisfied, if not edified. My second thought was that it might be a middle-of-the-road text, attempting to be complete enough to satisfy the truly interested student of the discipline while still adding sufficiently interesting and current material to make it pleasantly readable (the latest copyright date is 2009; certainly the author must have done some interesting revision).
What I found instead, to my disappointment, was a Textbook, one of those archetypical volumes that appears to espouse a single point of view so authoritatively and parentally that the reader loses his train of thought mid-sentence, apparently an attempt by the brain to discourage the reader from subjecting his cerebral processes to further suffering. In addition to Boredom-the kind of Boredom that comes from reading what one already knows or cares little about-the text appears to be out of date or inflexibly prescriptory in several sections.

You can find all the knowledge in this book by a quick romp through the Internet, much less painfully, and with a wider and more modern view of the complexities of psychopharmacology-sans the parental tone.

I liked this book because it goes straight to the hardcore of the problem. It also gives you a general information on disorders and clues on the prescription process.
I like that.

Short. Concise. Packed with useful and needed information about basic psychopharm. treatments. There are many thick psychopharmacology books out there given the complexity of the field, but sometimes less is more. Good for an introduction to medication or as a quick field reference.
