I have a biomedical background and have some veterinary experience since I wanted to be a veterinarian when I was younger, although I never did become a vet. Many years ago I got the dog owner's version of this handbook and referred to it when my dog got older and became sick. Because of my experience with the dog owner's version, I knew I wanted the cat owner's version.
I found "The Cat Owner's Home Veterinary Handbook" to be well written and easy to use. It does not overwhelm the reader with veterinary medical terminology and is easily understood by the average cat owner. It is easy to find information using the "Signs and Symptoms" and "General" indexes. There is more information than you will probably ever want to know or need to know; however, it is all worthwhile having available in the event your cat gets ill.
I am reading and skimming through the handbook. Even if you just keep it on your bookshelf just in case your cat gets sick, "The Cat Owner's Home Veterinary Handbook" is a VERY worthwhile purchase. Need this Every cat owner should have this book... It can save you money and maybe even a cat's life! A must have for cat owners I bought this book based on the reviews I read here at Amazon. I noticed that some people were displeased as the version they had bought was out of date, make sure you purchase the fully revised 3rd Edition, publication date 2008.
I used this book within weeks of buying it after we thought one of our cats had swallowed a q-tip! It was a great ready resource. The pictures are really clear, instructions easy to understand, and it really does cover virtually anything that may happen to your cat! It's also full of very useful information regarding sex, age progression, food and behavior. I know a lot more about how to best care for my cats for owning this book.
I would also recommend you consider buying "Cat vs. Cat" by Pam Johnson-Bennett as an excellent companion to this book if you have more than one cat in the house. Ratty book review This book arrived without its jacket and came with complimentary coffee stain and everything, The book itself is fine to read but doesn't display well. However like the other 3 books I ordered that day the ad said shipping was $3.99 and I was charged $12.49. Too expensive won't be using this service again. GREAT reference! This is a wonderful reference book for any cat owner or anybody working at an animal shelter or clinic. From the simplest symptom to the most complex is listed. Quick reference of signs/symptoms listed on front and back inside covers for easy access. | |
