I purchased this book for a friend of mine who needs a high-quality dictionary for general use that contains a large number of words and, in addition, definitions of words that have particular meanings in different Spanish-speaking countries. I have owned a copy of the same edition of this book, but an earlier supplement and have found it to be excellent. The price I paid is about 1/2 the price of this book, new. The only "defect" I found is that the book needs to be re-glued into the spine between the covers--a minor problem requiring the application of a library-grade, acid-free glue. I am very happy with the purchase of this OXford Spanish Dictionary.

I have the French dictionary to this one and I love that. I can find any word in this dictionary, even the obscure words in Spanish that are not used all the time.

I bought the CD-ROM version only a few years ago, although my Spanish teacher recommended the dictionary, because I already had many good English-Spanish and Spanish-Spanish dictionaries. It was very useful, until I upgraded my 32 bit Windows XP system to 64 bit Windows 7 (in itself, not a trivial task). Now the program does not load, and gives me an error message that I do not have a valid license. Uninstalling and reinstalling does not work, and another reviewer indicates it does not install on Vista. Many pieces of software are the same, especially with the 64 bit versions of Windows. I have sent an email to what I believe is customer support for The Oxford Spanish Dictionary, but have not, as received a reply.

I love this dictionary, and use it regularly. I have purchased it in its hardcover format, and as a PC-CDROM, and now have found it as an app for my iPod Touch, which means I can take it everywhere!! The hardcover version is wonderful when I'm at the kitchen table working on translations, or in the mood for flipping through it to add to my vocabulary, but it is not the best for taking to bed with me when I'm reading Carlos Ruiz Zafon's "El Juego del Ángel." Having it on my iPod, though, means I have the whole dictionary in the palm of my hand, accessible wherever I am. The iPod app has a numbers feature that's magnificent - as you type in a number it shows the number written out in words. Now if someone will make an app of the "Diccionario esencial de la lengua española"!!

I have used the print edition of the Oxford Spanish Dictionary 3rd edition for several years, and have been well pleased by its content and usefulness, but I agree with other reviewers that the binding of this large book is weak. Although its cover has fallen off, I've still managed to use it for the past few years.

Today I received the Oxford Spanish Dictionary on CD-ROM Third edition (Windows version 2.0, ISBN13: 9780198606833). I've spent the past hour putting it through its paces, and am very satisfied. I like being able to double click a word in an internet article I'm reading, and have the word instantly appear in the dictionary. I also find the speech feature of the program very helpful, the voices only have a small trace of a robot like quality.

An earlier review indicated this CD won't install on Vista. I'm sorry he had problems, but the program installed fine on my Vista system, and the publisher's website indicates it works with Vista ([...]).

Another reviewer mentioned that only some of the verb conjugations are provided. What I found is that only the irregular forms for a particular verb are shown, for example when you click on E11 for volver, but that all patterns for the conjugation of regular verbs can be found by clicking on the running man icon (verb tables) and then selecting A1, E1, or I1. There's even information about voseo, a variation of the tú (informal you) verb forms used in the River Plate area and in some Central American countries.
