When communication really matters...

pick up a tool that gets the job done. This is a very good dictionary that goes anywhere, and I use it with housekeeping, pantry, and maintenance staff almost on a daily basis. An added perk is that I am learning more Spanish as we go. I highly recommend it.
Lacks pronunciation key.
Customer Rating:
Good size and good number of words for my 3rd grader. But lacks pronunciation key, forcing us to go to other dictionaries or online. Unless your child is of ayoung age, I recommend getting a dictionary that has the pronunciation keys.
Great use of color and layout...
Customer Rating:
This is the best beginner to intermediate Spanish/English dictionary I have seen to date. This book helped me to realize that even in the well-established world of dictionaries, there is ample room for innovation.
It contains a mini visual dictionary in the center, between the Spanish->English and English->Spanish sections and provides some basic tips on grammar in both languages, tastefully writing the instructions for Spanish Grammar in English and those for English Grammar in Spanish.
The actual translation sections employ multiple colors, with keywords in yellow, and tactful layout to make it not only easy to navigate, but pleasurable to use. The reasonably small size and stiff turtleback cover make this dictionary just a little too large to fit in a pocket, but still readily portable.
More advanced students of Spanish may also want to add a pure Spanish-only dictionary to their war chest. I suggest that they start with Diccionario Practico del Estudiante, which includes a broader explanation of grammar and more detailed verb conjugations than the Larousse, in addition to being a quality dictionary: Diccionario Practico del Estudiante/ Student Dictionary
Excellent, great teaching tool
Customer Rating:
Everything promised in the ads and reviews I read on this reference book is true. I love the highlighted entries and the illustrations. My students (adult ESL learners) love them, too! It's a great starter dictionary for English or Spanish. Some of the entries are brilliant - look under the entry for the word "it". This book goes beyond the definitions and succinctly explains the differences between the two languages of the common usages of individual words. I highly recommend this for use in the classroom.
