Customer Reviews:Average Customer Rating: Very helpful This is a very helpful book. If you're looking for a specific program or school this book probably has it. If you're just looking to see what schools are available with various counseling programs this is your book. The breakdown of what each school has to offer is incredible and it is organized in an easy to use way. Also, the first 1/4 or so of the book is a step by step guide for you to follow. From choosing a discipline to taking the GRE to choosing a school. It has contact numbers and web addresses for each school and statistics about each school. Very good book for the grad school shopper. PhD and PsyD coverage ONLY This book is excellent if you're interested in PhD or PsyD programs in clinical and counseling psychology. However, be warned that it does not cover ANY information about masters programs. If you're looking for information on masters programs rather than PhD or PsyD, this book will not help you. I wish I could find a resource just like this but focused on masters programs! insiders guide to graduate programs in clinical and counseling psych The book was in very good condition, looked brand new. Met all of my expectations. Fantastic This book is really helpful, and I just love the point system that helps you calculate your likelihood of getting into a particular program. The only problem I have with the book is the APA accredited programs list--it's a little incomplete. It's better to go to the APA website for that. Overall, a good buy! okay place to start but far from perfect It's a good place to start and find schools to research on your own, however some of the material is outdated and other information is just plain wrong. I am using the 2008/2009 edition (it is currently 2009)and the biggest problem for me is that it assigns an inaccurate ranking to each school on a scale of 1 to 7 based on how research oriented or practice oriented each school is. I've been reading many websites as well as the actual handbooks of many clinical psych programs figuring out what programs fit my interests and quickly realized the book's scaling (which was the primary reason I bought this book) was not very reliable so it couldn't really help me narrow down my list of schools to throughly research myself. The interests of faculty listed are also not always complete. What was helpful about their school summaries was quick easy access to a good list of APA accredited programs (which is also available free on APA's website but with out any accompanying information about individual programs)which have accurate (usually from 2007) stats on acceptance rates, average GRE/GPA of admitted students, and funding rates. These I found to be pretty accurate, though of course programs have often gotten harder to get into since 07, but that's not the book's fault. | | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
