Customer Reviews:Average Customer Rating: Career Development Customer Rating:   This book describes the various types of theories in career counseling. It is very descriptive and portrays much research and several types of examples. The chapters are boring though. I wish the author used more real life examples about different cultures and approaches. Amazon's delivery was quick and efficent. The book was also in great condition. Costs too much Customer Rating: The only issue I have is that the book costs entirely too much given its content. Good for career guidance counseling.. Customer Rating: Not to bad of a book.. a little dry at times, however very comprehensive. Good text book for career guidance counseling.. One I will keep and not try to sell back.. voluminous info, not well organized, not well explained, almost outdated Customer Rating: Since theory always starts with the historical psychological causes of problems, this book is not really about theory, it's really about how to help individuals find a better future, not how to correct the causes of unemployment, underemployment or job dissatisfaction. Voluminous information, numerous psychometric scales and variables, not well defined and explained, and some explanations are off quite a ways. Examples are shallow and cold, not a model of how to be a professional, expert career counselor. Good books on career development theory are hard to find, especially given the changing world we live in. Hopefully there will be a text that comes out in the direction of "Adaptable Careers: Maximizing Less and Exploring More" by Annelies E M van Vianen, Irene E De Pater, Paul T Y Preenen from The Career Development Quarterly (June 2009, 57-4, pp 298-309). Career Development Theories Customer Rating: This book was purchased as the text for a Career Development class in a graduate program in Counseling. We're using it as a resource to supplement the lectures. I am finding it easy to read and so far very helpful.
