Customer Reviews:Average Customer Rating: I love the examples I was being harassed by phone solicitors for a charity. They'd call my cell phone ever morning at 8 a.m. I work late and try to sleep until 11. I call back and got an answering machine. I need to speak to a real person. There is an entire chapter on outmaneuvering the phone company. This book even tells you what to say to operators. And it's fun too. happy camper Hello to everyone -I steve am very happy with my new investigation book and everyone everywhere should get one just to know who you are dealing with and how many times they have been in jail ext. The book i recieved was in excellent condition and delivered very quickly and i am very happy as always working with amazon thanks STEAMER IN SAN DIEGO Private "I" Review The Complete Idiot's Guide to Private Investigating, 2nd Edition over rated I purchased this book based solely on the reviews. As a former P.I., I still like to stay up to date on some of the latest techniques for finding people and using the web. Several years back, I purchased a book titled, "Find Anyone Fast" (1997) by Richard S. Johnson & Debra Johnson Knox. It is still to date the most informative book I have read, though now somewhat dated. In Mr. Browns book he does not include websites, stating that by the time the book was in print the sites would probably change. This is simply not true, most well established facilites like State DOCs,prison locator services, state archives, and the VA regional Offices usually keep the same websites for 10 years or more. Unfortunately, some places like the Office of Vital Statistics and certain adoption agencies tend to relocate, as buildings become to small to house their records. Other books also have copies of forms that you will need to be familiar with to obtain information like at a tag agency. Overall, the book was somewhat of an easy read, but not really helpful. Most of the information you would have learned already in a P.I. school/class. If you know absolutely nothing about private investigation then this book will be a good addition to your personal library, however you will still other informative books to help with web based searches. Great - and just what I needed This book is exactly what I needed. I'm working on a novel in which my male protagonist is a PI, so I'm devouring all the information Steven Brown has packed into this book. It's a great resource for helping me create a realistic and believable character in an occupation about which I know nothing. | | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
