Summary:

VERY WELL WWRITEN. CHARACTERS WERE BELIEVABLE I LOVED IT. I HAD LIVED INUERENBERG FOR 6 MONTHS IN 1952 WITH THE OCCUPATION TROOPS...AND ALWAYS WANTED TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THEIR LIVES DURING THE WAR YEARS.

This was a wonderfully written and moving story about the results of the Holocaust without ever being sentimental or sappy. I am buying a copy for my mom, who is a decerning reader.

Once I opened this book I did not want to put it down. GREAT read, great book. I havent found a book this good in awhile. Def gave me a different insight to world war II . I never bothered to look into what the German people had to struggle with during this time. I really enjoyed this book.

I belong to a book club and we read this book because someone suggested it to us. Great book with some powerful women characters.

This book was a disappointment. Not because I read it over and over. Folded the pages. Dreamed about the characters. It was because I wanted to know more about them. I had gotten used to hearing about Trudie, Anna, Rainer, Thomas, The Nazi, The Jewish Doctor/Husband...and then only a few pages were left to turn and I knew I would never know what really happened to them
Why did Rainer run away? How did Thomas face his grief over his wife's accidental death? Did he feel guilty for her death?
Did Anna ever get really appreciated for all she had to endure to save her daughter, herself, and god forbid all those concentration prisoners who ate her bread and believed in hope,bravery of two women, and that they might survive. What happened to the Nazi did he survive? Where did he go? Matlide should have been given some thought at the end. She gave her life without so much as a thanks from the other characters.

Please, to the author. Write this book or continue another. I want to know more about the characters and their lives.
Sad to me that the book ended.
