Customer Reviews:Average Customer Rating: Shocking research into the highjacking of the Republican Party As a past Republican, this book details the stealing of a party and running it into the ground. The Republican party has lost its way and has no leadership to offer Max Knows This Terrain Max Blumenthal has been reporting on the religious right for some time and this book is an excellent chronical of this strange, contridictory and tortured movement and its people. Not for the faint of heart! Frightening look at authortianism as it undermines our democracy As one who has also read Dean's book Conservatives without Conscience, this is a much closer look into the actual events that have attempted to make the U.S. into a Taliban-like theocracy. There is a reason for the Constitution and the Bill of Rights and it is to prevent the takeover the government by the Farwells, Robertsons, Dobsons, and their thugs. It is a must read for anyone concerned about the future of this nation. Extremists from either the left or the right are to be feared and those of us are both Christian and populate the vast middle of the political spectrum need to stand against them. Must read to understand current political context Max Blumenthal has done what few contemporary commentators have managed to do. He has sifted through the extreme rhetoric of the Right Wing of the Republican Party to analyze the underlying conditions that have fueled their assault on our democracy. Republican Gomorrah helps to cast a bright light on the dark side of Fundamentalist Christianity and its bigotry. In doing so, his book goes a long way toward helping those seeking to understand why ordinary Americans often align themselves with the interests of the rich and powerful against their own well-being. It is a familiar strategy -- divide and conquer -- that wraps itself in the flag and twisted interpretations of the Bible. Blumenthal has provided a well-read and richly documented account of the tendency toward authoritarianism in American politics. Highly recommended. Difficult and Disturbing The author of this book was interviewed on the radio, and I was so impressed with him, I decided to purchase the book. It took me a very long time to get through it because it is so disturbing. It is not something I would read twice, but that is because of the content, not the authorship or writing style. Most of what is in this book, I already knew, but the depth of depravity was upsetting. So, all in all, a well written book on a very nasty, but important to know, subject. | | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
