Customer Reviews:Average Customer Rating: Captain Sullenberger: One of American's Finest This is the story of more than the flight over NYC and the landing on the Hudson. It is the biography of a man who was destined to be a pilot and how his training and experiences prepared him for the January 2009 landing on the Hudson river. It is inspiring and reinforces that good values, education, training and honor are important. The other reviews have described in more detail what is in the pages of this book. The next time your flight is delayed or you experience some inconvenience, think about the expert in the cockpit who is doing everything in his/her power to get you to your destination safely. Competence The world came to know Chesley B. Sullenberger on January 15, 2009 when he guided the engineless US Airways Flight 1549 onto the Hudson River and all 155 persons aboard were rescued. Sully's book, Highest Duty: My Search for What Really Matters, informs readers about who this pilot is, where he came from, how he achieved such competence, and how he's tried to live his life. For readers who want to know more about what happened to Flight 1549 on 1/15/09, this book will make your heart race as Sully relates the second-by-second action. Readers who are inspired or motivated by learning about how others have become competent and how they choose to live will find chapters in Highest Duty that will lead to high admiration for Sully, and inspiration to be like him. Great read Highest Duty is a great quick read. Very nice look into the world and background of a man who had fame thrust upon him and stood tall to the challenge... a rare feat these days when you really stop to think about it. The right Man in the right place at the right time and Sully has life experience enough to keep it all in proper perspective. What it means to be a professional... pilot. Being a professional pilot means many things to different people. This book is about more than just a miraculous landing in the Hudson River. It's about basic values, having dreams and goals, accountability and still being vulnerable to the pitfalls of life. Every pilot shoulld read tis book to better understand whey they are sometimes a special breed. Every profession has a percentage of "less desirables" who make us wonder why they did or said that to make us think less of them. But evey profession is driven by folks with "the right stuff." Sully can hold his head high for who he is and how he did what he did at the time. Loved it! This book took my breath away. What a humble account from a very heroic figure. I enjoyed it from cover to cover. It is a true keeper. | | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
