Captured by the Russian army during World War II and convicted of being a "Vatican spy," American Jesuit Father Walter J. Ciszek spent some 23 agonizing years in Soviet prisons and the labor camps of Siberia. He here recalls how it was only through an utter reliance on God's will that he managed to endure. He tells of the courage he found in prayer-a courage that eased the loneliness, the pain, the frustrations, the anguish, the fears, the despair. For, as Ciszek relates, the solace of spiritual contemplation gave him an inner serenity upon which he was able to draw amidst the "arrogance of evil" that surrounded him. Learning to accept even the inhuman work of toiling in the infamous Siberian salt mines as a labor pleasing to God, he was able to turn adverse forces into a source of positive value and a means of drawing closer to the compassionate and never-forsaking Divine Spirit. He Leadeth Me is a book to inspire all Christians to greater faith and trust in God-even in their darkest hour. | Average Customer Rating: Thoughtful book Wonderful thoughtful book recounting this priest's suffering in labor camps after being sent to Siberia. Less of a "tell all" and more of his impressions and spiritual ideas and beliefs. A lesson to all, what some will endure for the Kingdom of God. He Leadeth Me This is a wonderful story of a Jesuit priest who was imprisoned in Russia in World War II. Transforming Dear Fellow Readers,
I thought I would share with you an email below that I sent to the Walter Ciszek website regarding the cause for his Canonisation.
Dear Fellow Christians, It has been some time since I have read, He Leadeth Me by Father Walter Ciszek and managed to reflect on Walter's life. There is no doubt in my mind / soul that the Father guided / lead me in his own special / mysterious way to read the account of Walter's life. Very few Christians, besides Christ and some of the well known Saints would have endured and suffered as much as Walter had endured and suffered in his life, which for me is truly inspirational and transforming. The Father is constantly challenging and guiding in his own special way for all of us and I am truly blessed for having read and appreciated the extraordinary contribution that Walter has had on so many of us. Obviously, I have never met Walter in person but with the Father's / Christ consent, I hope to one day meet Walter in Eternity. With regard to Walter's Canonisation, I do believe he is more than worthy of the cause but in my mind, he is already Canonised because he is with the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit and all the Angels and Saints for Eternity.
