Summary:

Sergeant Michael Volkin has done it again with The Ultimate Interactive Basic Training Workbook! After hearing the same request from literally hundreds of new recruits and veteran soldiers, he has developed a dynamic follow-up to complement and enhance his best-selling The Ultimate Basic Training Guidebook (Savas Beatie, 2005). The Ultimate Interactive Basic Training Workbook is a comprehensive interactive guide crafted especially for today's computer-savvy recruit (any branch, male or female). When used together with Volkin's original guidebook, the Workbook provides every recruit with the inside knowledge of basic training he/she needs to not only survive, but thrive in the military. This remarkable cutting-edge book includes interactive activities, multiple choice and true/false questions, short answer, word association games, and flash cards you cut out and use to enhance memory and recall. Everyone who purchases this title will be allowed entry into the special "Workbook" section of Sergeant Volkin's dynamic website, where they will find additional in-depth answers and tips for every question asked in the book-and much more! Audio and video graphic icons placed throughout the Workbook let readers know additional information is available on Sergeant Volkin's website. The Workbook also includes a complete exercise program designed to turn civilians into "military-fit" recruits before they enter basic training. Is Volkin's physical training program really indispensable? Absolutely! This workbook walks every reader through a comprehensive preparatory fitness program. As any recruit who has passed through basic training will tell you, there is a giant difference between "civilian fit" and "military fit." Sergeant Volkin's book has the charts, tables, photos, and graphs you need every step of the way to get yourself "military fit" and ready for boot camp.Knowledge is power, and stepping off the bus and into boot camp armed with everything you need to know will give you an enormous advantage over most of the other recruits. The Ultimate Interactive Basic Training Workbook was written by a soldier for men and women who want to become soldiers . . . exceptional soldiers. No one should enter boot camp without having read and reread Sergeant Volkin's indispensable books. Sergeant Michael Volkin is a U.S. Army veteran. He served in Operation Enduring/Iraqi Freedom as a Chemical Operations Specialist and received an Army Commendation Medal for his efforts and for the fitness programs he designed to help his fellow soldiers. He has a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Science from Stephen F. Austin State University in Texas and also a Real Estate Brokers Degree.

I recently graduated out of infantry basic training. The author claims that this book is ageless no matter what happens in the Army. I disagree. The kind of training you get these days from the Army and the military in general is directed towards warfare that the author did not get the initial training for. Second, if you're heading for infantry forget it! All this book familiarizes you with is some terms and a few phrases. Gives you a few tips on shooting and that's it. The most obvious part is that the Army, Marines, and recently the Air Force don't shine boots. The Army specifically doesn't wear BDUs anymore and so on. You can find all the information he's talking about online if you google a bit. Save your money, and invest a little time online. You'll get all the answers and advice you want. This guy has not been to basic training in a long time.

This book has some very useful information in it along with a great workout program. The author seems to be a bit into himself, and seems to push the reader into buying his other books. The book promises downloadable workout logs, but after logging onto the website, and emailing the author, I still have no logs. But other than that it is a very helpful and informative book.

Pre-teen & teen boys
Customer Rating:  Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5

Given as gift to pre-teen and teen boys, who are eager for adventure, and consider themselves continuously in training. Even after they had sent the obligatory thank-you notes, they spoke of their appreciation, and the fact that they read the entire book and completed the workbook. This was during Christmas school break! Altho, I don't like to promote violence or war as a first response, reality requires the fact that we need men of strong integrity, who are well trained to be prepared to defend our country. I recommend these in place of violent video games.

Makes a great gift for someone going into any branch of the military

I gave this book as a gift to a friend who was going into the military and was told it was a very useful gift. It answered a lot of questions and eliminated a lot of anxiety.
If you know of anyone considering, or recently making the commitment, then this book is a strong recommendation. They SHOULD be handing these out in the recruiting offices!

Informative read
Customer Rating:  Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5 Score = 5

I bought this book directly from the author after reading his
Guidebook to help me prepare for boot camp. It was definitely worth
it. There's lots of real helpful info in both books, and the Workbook
had a lot of extra content, like the multiple choice questions and
things on the author's website. (There are icons in the book so you
know when to jump on to the author's website for extra info, video
clips, photos, etc.). There is a small problem with some of the
flashcards in the book. The words don't match up correctly on the
front and back when cut out. An obvious printing error, and not the
author's fault. I was not going to cut out the phonetic alphabet cards
anyway, so I just used index cards and made my own. If you want to use
the cards in the book, I guess you could just write the answer on
them. No big deal and it does not detract from all the great info
inside this book. Mandatory reading, no exception.
