Customer Reviews:Average Customer Rating: The most interesting parts are what's left out I read this book many years ago as a young Navy pilot. It was fascinating then. Since then I have spent six years in as a POW in Vietnam. Now I find the most interesting parts of the story are what is not in the book. What was Rost's life like after he returned to Germany? What was his family reunion like? Had they known he was alive? I was "missing presumed captured for four years before the Vietnamese admitted I was a POW, so these questions are personal with me. An amazing storage of persistence and courage Both my husband and I read and were moved by this book. It is a truly unbelieveable true story, well told. An interesting post WWII book concerning treatment by the former USSR of German and other POW's... Kept your interest, but lacked much detail in respect to most persons encountered. It felt at times like an over-stated personal travel log. No matter how I tried, I found the main protagonist a person that may have a problem with actual facts concerning his ordeal. Somewhere during the telling the truth might have been lost in fact or translation. Overall, a good read nonetheless... as far as my feet will carry me I was told this was good, Not good, but great,I read this in two days.could not put it down ,if you like history,a must read. excellent reading As Iam a reader who is interested in true to life stories I found this book to be very interesting and informative. It is well written and easy to understand. The descriptions of the areas and towns he stopped at were very clear and gave me a very good impression of what life was there for the people living there and his experiences there. | | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
