Customer Reviews:Average Customer Rating: great book My husband just loves this book he is learning alot from it. We got it in a timely manner. This is the Textbook for the HVAC/R trade http://www.amazon.com/Modern-Refrigeration-Conditioning-Andrew-Althouse/dp/1590702808/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top This is the 1000+ page text for the HVAC/Refrigeration trade. There is also a study guide and workbook that go with this book and this has obviously confused some. If it isn't 1000+ pages it is not the text! This is an enormous book and covers many aspects of the trade. It mentions almost in passing the concept of building automation (which is the direction my career is going) but I expect that the next edition will address this lack. I would also expect to see a little more about energy management in general in the next edition. This is an excellent reference and most of us keep it even after class is done. The nuts and bolts - and contactors and compressors and everything else are at least introduced if not completely explained. It does cover some information you need for CFC certification but a separate, targeted study guide is better for that. Even if, like me, you will be doing automation / controls you still need to know how this stuff works to do the job right. Good stuff...! I got this brand new book from Construction Book Express, the only bad thing is that they weren't specific enough and I had to contact them to make sure it was the 18th edition. Other than that, I am really happy with the purchase; I paid regular Standard shipping and got the book 8 days later. I would definitely used this site again. Book Is Useless to Me I obtained a copy of this book when I was a student at ETI. The book did provide some useful information, but most of the information that was provided, was taught in the classroom. A Pocket Full Of Basic Needed Tools If your seriously considering the HVAC/R field as a service technician this book will give you a pocket full of basic tools... but that's it! This book could be reduced by half and written to normal folks not engineers. Some of the material is right to the point while other portions are quite verbose and could be simplified. The diagrams and split views are wonderful and very detailed. I will say that a book of this size leaves out many of the basic fundamentals of the trade. This text is exceptionally weak in the teaching and reading of electrical schematics. I "hate" to say this, but Doolans Troubleshooting Bible offers more in the needed basics area than this text. One other thing I should say is the Doolans book has the potential to kill an inexperienced (new) technician... use with an instructor and caution! | | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
