Customer Reviews:Average Customer Rating: Good value for money Great book. As a newcomer to lathe and milling operations this one covers the areas of my interest nicely and with easy language that a non-native as myself can understand what's going on. It even has very useful small projects to go. From easy to more complex, so that if you're an old school machinist, even you can get good ideas out of this one. As an European, I would like to see measures in metric. But you can't have everything, can you? Good introduction to machine tools, their care, and usage. Provides a good broad background knowledge on machine shops tools - from files to lathes. A perfect introduction to machining If you are interested in traditional machine tools and techniques (as opposed to the modern CNC or computer controlled machining) this book is perfect. It gives you all the basics with plenty of helpful illustrations and doesn't go into excessive detail on obscure topics that only a master machinist would be interested in. The title of the book accurately describes what it is. the home machinist's handbook A great little book for somebody like myself who is just starting out in the home machinist's area. It really helped me make a decision on the type of metal lathe I would need and what to look for when buying one. You will find the author is quite slanted towards the Sherline tools and must have some connection with the company but the product line is similar to all others in its price range anyway. The author gave me the info I needed and it makes for a great reference book for the beginner who is considering buying a small milling machine or desk top lathe for hobby related projects. Other tools are covered too. Good illustrations and clearly written. I like it! Excellent guide to a beginning machinist This book is fabulous. It covers everything from how to use a file, to the proper use of various types of punches to lathes and mills. Included are details on the numbering system for metal types, ferrous, and non-ferrous. Guidelines on "feeds" and "speeds" for machining, use of cutting lubricants of many other practical tidbits. It gives formulas for threading several common thread types as well as how to do threading. The book concludes with several nice projects that are easy but useful machinists tools. A must have for the beginning home/hobby or tech school machinist. | | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
