Customer Reviews:Average Customer Rating: Great book; mediocre printing The copyright on the original book is, of course, expired, so several publishers have printings available. This one uses what seems like pretty cheap paper; more significantly, the pages are printed at an unusually small size - I have to believe it's been reduced from the original. The text is on the border of what my 40-year-old eyes can make out. Some of the figures appear to have some handwritten marks on them. Not Great This appears to be a reproduction of an old book of unstated vintage. My guess would be from the 1870 to 1890 period. The illustrations are a bit small and a bit crude... I felt a few of them were misdrawn enough to be unworkable as shown. A lot of the mechanisms shown are really basic things like simple levers or pulleys unworthy of space in a serious book. And the whole book is poorly organized. My advice is to save your money for the "Ingenious Mechanisms" series. It's on-line Buy this if you want your own copy to annotate, but you can download it in .pdf form from Google Books. Cute little coffe table book on mechanisms This is a nice little book on mechanisms - best for a coffee table or waiting room. Fairly low on useful detail but good for an overview or exposure to many different types and applications of mechanisms. For a more thorough book, I highly recommend Mechanisms and Mechanical Devices Sourcebook, Fourth Edition which has a broader spectrum of movements that is well categorized and with more detailed supporting information. The basics The book "507 mechanical movements - mechanisms and devices" was a really nice surprise. I did not have great expectations when purchased it. One of my hobbies is making mechanical toys, in paper or wood, and I needed some information about mechanical movements. Since it came, I've had very few oportunity of reading it. Both my father and my husband are using it too, for totally different purposes. I believe it's quality rely on being simple, and showing the basic and the principles. | | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
