Customer Reviews:Average Customer Rating: excellant An excellant collection of not only "how to" but where to, what to use, and what to look for. This goes way beyond the boring "caulk and weatherstrip" and gives you specifics by house type, construction methods, and geographic location. Keep it simple. Bruce Harley does keep it simple. If you want to know the how and why things are done, this is your book. As some mentioned, it is not a step-by-step manual but if you've got some basic skills this book will put you on the right path to saving energy and money. A Great Book of Insulation Information! This book is great for DYI'ers in the fight to save money on heating cost. The book gives a lot of great tips to insulate your home. I wish I had it before my project! I wish I had this book before I took apart the inside of my old house. I'd class myself as a intermediate do-it-yourselfer in construction (except for the drywall part). While I'm quite pleased with what I did do, and some of the materials were not locally available at the time anyway, I could have turned a pretty good job into an awesome one. At least there are ways to "retrofit" some of the existing areas. As with other "for pros by pros" books I've read/own, the illustrations are great, and the descriptions and principles described are nicely explained. Anyone wanting to make their existing home better will find all sorts of tips, and anyone having work done will be able to intelligently evaluate what's being done. You may even be able to save money by improving upon the "ordinary" job the contractors did by investing a bit of money and time after they leave, doing what they'd charge a lot to do, and likely argue with you as to how much benefit you'd get out of it. Excellent and informative I'm in the industry of energy audits and have several BPI (Building Performance Institute) certifications. This book was recommended by a colleague as an excellent, must-have resource. I totally agree. I've only read part of the book and skimmed the rest. So far I find it very well written and up-to-date as far as building science is concerned. It has great illustrations and photos of practical techniques. Highly recommended. When I finish the book I'll try to remember to update this review. | | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
