Customer Reviews:Average Customer Rating: Praise for Howard! Gary Howard really exposed the truth behind why many of our schools are not successful in reaching the needs of all students. The chapter on "Decoding the Dominance Paradigm" was my favorite chapter. Garbage. Not at all what I needed. I always welcome a different perspective. I'm white and I'll never change that, so I hoped for some insight that might be the slightest bit useful in a teaching career. It's proper to try and walk a mile in someone else's shoes, book this book was little more than the self-loathing rant of a man who hates himself for being white. Well Worth the Read This was assigned as part of an urban ed course requirement for teacher certification. By far one of the best books I've read. Very insightful with real applications to the classroom. Well worth your time to read! Review of G. Howard's book I did not care for this book. I did not care for the conclusions that Gary Howard drew from his experiences in the 60's. I thought the book was off center. Wouldn't read it if I were you This book really did not cover what the title seemed to imply, the main point that the author seemed to try to be making is that of white dominance and how to overcome it. I didn't read this book to learn about white dominance I wanted to learn more about how to teach what I don't know. The author just stated things that I already knew instead of offering practical advice on how to teach multicultural students. | | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
