And this time, he's learning all about personal space. Louis, a self-taught space expert is delighted to learn that his teacher has sent him to the principal's office to attend personal space camp. Eager to learn more about lunar landings, space suits, and other cosmic concepts, Louis soon discovers that he has much to learn about personal space right here on earth. Written with style, wit, and rhythm, personal space camp addresses the complex issue of respect for another person s physical boundaries. Told from Louis perspective, this story is a must-have resource for parents, teachers, and counselors who want to communicate the idea of personal space in a manner that connects with kids. | Average Customer Rating: Love this book If your child has personal space issues, please get this book. it is a great story about a boy who goes to "space camp" He thinks he really is going to a space camp, but finds out the space camp is about how we interact with other people (not getting to close into their personal space) A great book that is fun and easy going for all children to understand. Great Art work as well! From Satellite to Sun This is an excellent book for young children, toddlers to early grades who need gentle guidance on respecting the personal space of others. Louis, the main character appears to have Asperger's Syndrome. His social skills are not up to speed and one of his biggest problems appears to be recognizing that invisible boundary that constitutes personal space.
Like a little satellite, Louis orbits around people; like a comet or meteor, he comes crashing down when his overtures are rejected. Louis is given an ultimatum - he will have to attend Personal Space Camp.
Instead of viewing this with trepidation, Louis is eager to attend because he figures he will be doing areo-space themed activities and enjoying space themed treats.
This is an excellent teaching tool to help kids learn where to stand when talking to somebody; how to wait on line and how to guage personal space based on the invidivual and the setting. The pictures, drawn based on Louis' image of Personal Space camp are funny and endearing. He is a lost space ship, who like John in "Captain Tommy" will need some guidance in being brought back into orbital alignment. It just goes to show you that children on the spectrum need not fear a lifetime sentence of being a satellite revolving around popular suns - everybody has a chance to be a Sun!
George Harrison's stellar 1969 classic "Here Comes the Sun" is the soundtrack for this book. This is an excellent companion book to Captain Tommy
quickcam review Great buy for the money. Easy to install and operate. My only complaint is that it did not come with as many "fun features" as it leads you to believe (no avatars for the little kids to view). Everything does seem to work great though. Love it! I use this book all the time, ranging from kindergarten to 4th grade. They really love this book and it's easy to understand. Fabulous Book about Personal Space! I am a huge fan of Julia Cook! I have just recently discovered her books.
Louis has a problem with personal space, so he is sent to personal space camp. Louis thinks he is a space expert, outer space expert, so he is excited to go to space camp. It takes him awhile to realize that the principle is not talking about outer space. She is talking about personal space. The author gives examples that children can easily relate to about personal space.
Louis is a funny, and charmingly sweet character. I enjoyed the story as much as my children! | |
