Every complaint is an opportunity to turn a negative into a positive. The No Complaining Rule: Positive Ways to Deal with Negativity at Work Review by Richard L. Weaver II, PhD.
Gordon writes, ""The goal of this book is not to eliminate all complaining, just mindless, chronic complaining. And the bigger goal is to turn justified complaints into positive solutions. After all, every complaint represents an opportunity to turn something negative into a positive" If your goal is to increase your positive attitude, this is the book for you. This 155-page book is simple (some would say, "shallow"), easy-to-read, and told in storybook style, but it packs a powerful punch for its suggestions for obtaining a positive approach to life. Because it is short and to the point, it is a worthwhile investment. Positive Staff Discussion If your work environment is showing signs of commiseration, this is a great book to bring to the staff meeting for review and discussion.
It opens the door for communication. Some of your peers may even self-identify with one of the characters and self-realize their behavior may be what is keeping the team from improving their results.
It would be helpful to read "the Energy Bus" and "Training Camp" before hand, but it is not a necessity.
Highly recommend this book for any leader trying to give his team a culture boost. Are you looking for something useful? All too often, we pour through the pages of the latest book searching for something useful to give a real spark to our employees, only to come away feeling a little like we just read more of the same old thing. That's not the case with THE NO COMPLAINING RULE by Jon Gordon.
In this book, you'll find actual information you can use to get your team on track with where they need to be to facilitate better morale, increased production and an all around better working environment.
I'm in the early stages of implimenting the No Complaining Rule to my team, but already the results are dramatic. Yes, my constant complainers still have complaints, but now they are at least bringing their own workable solutions to the table. They're focusing on what we're doing right, not just on what might be wrong at that moment. When they help develop a solution, they have ownership of it, so when it is tried, if it fails, they continue looking since they can't really complain about their own ideas!
This is the first thing I have ever read by Jon Gordon, but I will certainly invest the time into reading more of his work. I do a lot of marriage counseling (pre-marriage actually) and I can see a definate use for this book in relationship building as well. I highly recommend this book. Life Changing I am the Director of Marketing for a Rehab Hospital, we had been through a lot of change and and the negative energy had creeped in and engulfed us.I saw the book and the Title jumped up and hit me right between the eyes. I have to tell you that this book and "The Energy Bus" has transformed my Team into the Team they are meant to be. In 2008 we were named Marketing Team of The Year because of our heart. In a 6-8 month spand of time we had lost our spirit, mostly because I was leading them full of negativity and doubt. I got on the right track and then encouraged them to read the books and wow what a difference this has made. I shared the books with my boss and he shared them with our Senior Leadership. Who knows where this will take us!! Thank You for delivering these fundamental messages, you have helped transform us into what we are meant to be! | |
