Customer Reviews:Average Customer Rating: Full of typos and errors, Use SHRM learning system instead Way too many typos and errors to even take this text seriously. Although the SHRM Learning System is expensive, it is totally worth it to help you pass the test since the information presented and practice questions closely resemble the actual test. Make sure you purchase the practice assessments from HRCI, too. This text should be used only as a supplement and only if you are interested in learning more about particular court cases. I passed the SPHR exam on the first try in 2008 using primarily the SHRM Learning System. I stopped using this text shortly after receiving it when I realized its quality was not up to par. Excellent review and study book This has many of the features you want in your prep for SPHR. I recommend it. Very good book-recommended I recently sat for my SPHR exam on January 30th, 2008 (and passed-yeah!). I attended a preparation course from my local SHRM chapter that used preparation materials from HRCP. While I found the course and materials somewhat useful, Dr. Phillips book did a MUCH better job of distilling the HR body of knowledge into what you needed to know for the exam. He does an excellent job of explaining and then pointing out what areas are most likely to show up on the actual test, using exam alerts as you go along. Most of the areas he highlighted were covered on the exam. Another very useful component is the CD that has many practice tests. I found the practice tests the most efective for review and for helping to alleviate test anxiety by getting to know the feel and pace of the actual test. I would say if you are a very strong generalist with a strong working technical knowlege of the material, you could just use this book and CD as prep and pass the test. Otherwise, I would also recommend using other sources to round out your approach. SPHR Exam Prep book was great I used this book to "cram" study for the SPHR and I found it very, very thorough and helpful. I did pass the test. I compared notes with a friend that took the SPHR $700 course and was taking the test the same week I was. It seemed that this book covered most of the same stuff that her course did so I felt well prepared going in to the exam. I think it is IMPERATIVE that you do the practice exams included with the book until you ace them. Be especially prepared for situational questions, they seem to try to be tricky on them and those seemed to be the vast majority on the actual exam. I also did the certgear.com SPHR review. It covered the same things as this book but the more practice questions the better in my opinion. Not enough detail I have to agree with many of the other reviews. This book provides a good summary of information, but the SHRM Learning system provides more relevant detail and is easier to understand. I did pass the SPHR, but I stopped using this book and focused primarily on the SHRM Learning System. I doubt I could have passed the test if this was my only resource. It's an inexpensive buy as a supplement, but don't depend on this to pass the exam!! | | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
