This is the only book you need to have security+.

But remember, security is a subject that depends on experience. So coupled with experince, this leads you to security+.

This book, by itself, is a poor preparation for the latest 2008 exam. The book has a good foundation of very basic instruction but fails to give specific applications of what you need to know to pass the test. I am not sure if there is ONE book that would help you pass the exam without some hardcore experience, especially crypto in specific applications. I don't recommend this book if you want to use it as the only source of information. You may want to try something else if you don't have a lot of experience.

I used this book and transcender for the extra practice exams. I passed the Security+ 2008 Edition on my first try with an 820/900. This is a great book and I will keep it as a resource.

In my experience it is a good idea to use more than one resource when studying for these certification exams. One book may leave out relevant facts or explain a concept in such a way you understand it better.

I picked up this book to take the Security+ exam. After going through all the practice questions and understanding it I still have not got around to testing. I have not got around to testing because I do not feel this book is good enough to have you pass and I do not want to spend the $400 on a test just to fail it.
