This is precisely the task ahead for individuals engaged in career development, especially those transitioning from one occupation to another. This book is targeted at college students and young professionals, so don't expect scholarly writing in this down and dirty, first-hand account of how one guy creates and uses his brand to reach his ultimate goals. Instead you'll get straight from the gut writing, highlights of branding success, and numerous methods and tips for moving forward with your brand. Schwabel is young, and that comes out in his writing, but that does not diminish the excellent ideas and suggestions he provides along the way. You'll find quite a bit of good advice on developing a personal brand, as well as how to sell your brand using the multitude of options on the Internet. Additionally, you'll learn why and when to use branding techniques. Me 2.0 is well worth the read as you work toward marketing yourself toward a successful future. And for the older readers out there, you'll discover all you you need to know about making the Internet work for you when you are re-entering the workforce, transitioning your career or just getting the next job in your career path. Not what I was expecting. Ok, no need for a huge ramble just the facts. If your a complete newbie to marketing, blogging, social networking, branding, etc then this book is ok and gives you a basic understanding. For everyone else please save your hard earned money. Dan (the author) did a good job don't get me wrong happy for him and all that. But this book is so basic it hurts.
I am not a marketing, blogging expert, but man I knew everything that was in this book, all of it. And I'm not a marketer. If you have any knowledge of the internet, then trust me when I say you can find ALL of this information for free online using Google. I read this book in one night. Wrote down zero tips. I feel duped kind of but its my own fault. Lesson learned. Excellent book for Gen Y and Gen X managing Gen Y employees I purchased this book after learning about the author in Business Week. It is an easy read and is really devoted to recent college graduates and new professionals applying for entry level positions however it will also be very helpful to any professional that is not tech savvy and would like to better understand social networking, social media, and personal branding. I would highly recommend this book. Essential Reading for Ambitious Visionaries Dan Schawbel's enthusiasm for the subject of personal branding practically explodes off every page! His writing is simple, straightforward, inspiring and easy to assimilate.
This book's main topic is how to discover, create, communicate and maintain your personal brand. Dan covers the entire process in great detail with a technologically relevant point-of-view. He also touches upon interrelated areas of business, marketing and entrepreneurship which enhance his overall concept quite nicely.
The result is a comprehensive wealth of invaluable information for anyone who may be graduating from college, seeking a new job, becoming an entrepreneur, or simply upping the ante of their personal brand.
Although Dan is young, his professional achievements are impressive. He has also encountered setbacks, failures and obstacles along his career path and has a true desire to make sure the reader avoids some of his mistakes.
If you are even slightly interested in branding, "Me 2.0" should be in your library. If you possess the creativity, ambition and vision to put these ideas to work - then BUY THIS BOOK RIGHT NOW and get busy! This is THE book for personal branding new comers (Not so much for everyone else though!) I was actually turned on to Dan Schawbel through David Meerman Scott, another amazing social media powerhouse.
I told him I wanted to be a "social media consultant for indie artists, small business owners and other independent under 30s." He said, in so many words that "Dan Schawbel is the person to study. If he can do it, so can you." Dan's book is really the book I wish I had straight out of high school. It would've changed my life and I probably would have been on the path I am now 7 years earlier! However, since I have been studying social media for a while now, this book is filled with stuff that is "common knowledge" for someone like me who already knows a thing or two about social media. I'm much older now so I know so much I didn't know fresh out of high school and college. For someone looking to strengthen their knowledge on personal branding, this is really NOT the book for you.
However, if you're young and want to really immerse yourself in personal branding and want to a) turn yourself into a personal branding powerhouse b) land an amazing job fast or c) propel yourself into the spotlight as someone who knows talks a big game and knows a great deal, I couldn't recommend a better book than this! Forget hard knocks and trial and error. Schawbel has done all the dirty work for you and lays out an impressive map for someone who's clueless on how to make themselves a personal branding star. It's packed full of information that will change your way of thinking overnight and set you on a path to greatness (provided you do some hardwork yourself, of course!)
I can't express how powerful this book is for people being thrown into the job market from day one. This is a powerful book for people who don't have the time to sit around and read books and blogs all day about how to learn how to market yourself and your brand. This book has the power to change many young people's lives. If you don't know where to start but you know you have it within you to become great, get this book ASAP. | |
