The Strategy That Withstood the Turmoil The "Crash Proof 2.0" (Sep 22, 2009) includes the complete and unchanged text of Crash Proof (Feb 26, 2007), but in the end of this chapter, you will see several pages of comments labeled "2009 update"; they explain the original investment thesis over of prism of 2008-2009 turmoil.
The basic strategy of the author is to invest in foreign securities and gold.
The critics of mr. Schiff's strategy point that in February or March 2009 the foreign securities have fallen more than U.S. ones, and the gold have plummeted while the dollar have rallied.
In the Crash Proof 2.0 the author replies to this criticism: the strategy is for the long term. He have always warned that gold or foreign assets may dip but they will recover quicker than the U.S. assets. He have also suggested that you always need have spare cash to quickly grab these assets at fire-sale prices. This spare cash will save you from selling the assets cheap when you need money to cover you living or emergency expenses.
Not only was the author right in predicting the 2008-2009 turmoil, but his theory withstood the turmoil.
The author warns that the crisis is not yet over, worse may follow, and you will be able to protect yourself and the society from possible forthcoming difficulties.
Disapointed Book is repeat of prior issue designed to sell his Brokerage. There is almost no new information in the update. A book that changed my behaviors Most books are mind candy for me, enjoyable with no particular effect. Crash Proof 2.0 cut throgh the fog of diverse concepts in a way that made good sense to me and caused me to choose an investment strategy in which I have fundamental confidence. Peter has a credible voice that I can hear above the chorus of competing voices. Lost your shirt and still don't know where to turn? There is not much I can say at this point which has not already been said; I agree with the recommendation to buy and read this book. Last fall 2008 when my retirement account was taking I dive, I knew I needed help. There was no one "out there" who had predicted what was happening, but now all of a sudden everyone had the expert opinion. You know who I'm talking about, the TV financial gurus and pundits. Why would anyone take investment advice from people who never saw the crash coming, and in fact, only a few short months before were saying everything was peachy keen? I knew the days of automatic bank transfers to mutual funds and believing what I had been told, that the stock market always goes up, were over. I read "Crash Proof" after doing some digging about the truth of the collapse. Here was a guy, Peter Schiff, who actually warned of the collapse two years before! How did I miss all those you tube clips when they were originally on TV? Well, like I said, I wasn't paying attention. Reading "Crash Proof" literally changed my life. There are negative reviews here by people who say they've lost money taking Peter's advice. Since Peter's philosophy is buy and hold for the long term, I can only surmise they sold their positions at the bottom. As luck would have it, by the time I moved my hummingbird sized nest egg to EuroPacific, I was buying what they were selling. Following the advice from the book, I now find myself more confident to weather the storm. I own gold, silver, non-dollar denominated foreign dividend paying stocks and bonds all of which are doing better than I could have imagined. One of Peter's stock picks that I bought at 9 cents a share is now at 60 cents! Too bad I only bought 62,000 shares! Gold is up, silver is up, I have no complaints. Definately read "Crash Proof 2.0". You get the original plus the updates. Once you learn the truth about what's really going on in the economy, you can get a handle on your financial future and feel so much better when you do. | |
