Comprehensive. Everything you need to know about Camera Raw and so well written. It makes a rather complex subject very accesible.

There are a plethora of books on the market for Photoshop CS3, a majority of them being quite good. There is,however,remarkably few on Adobe Camera Raw and Adobe Bridge. This is surprising, since these two applications represent two thirds of the Photoshop program. One might get the impression that Camera Raw and Bridge are little more than a Photoshop preface;nothing is further from the truth. This book demonstrates quite effectively the usefulness or,more accurately,the indispensability of Camera Raw and Bridge to the digital workflow. How this is so is beyond the scope of this review, suffice it to say that once you read this book you will be as convinced of its indispensability as I am now.

This is not just for pros, semi-pros but also for people who are wondering about shooting RAW and how Adobe tools could come together to create a picture of your vision, manage tons of data and mass produce them and please your client too. This is a fantastic book. I have tried buying a bunch of these 5* books....end up never reading them fully. Just use it as a reference here and there...But this one, is like a intriguing novel. If you are serious about digital photography, you will read this book cover to cover in one sitting. Very informative and inspiring.

Echo many of the other comments. This will be a true reference guide for a long time.

My only comments are that I wish there were more suggested 'guidelines' for the clarity and vibrance controls. Additionally, the last chapter on automation was excellent. I just wish that that sort of step-by-step explanation was done for more examples.

For anyone who has got themselves to the stage where they are ready to embrace RAW and move further inside the digital system which is revolutionising photography there are certain steps which must be taken.

Naturally, you will require a digital single lens reflex camera (DSLR) and start taking those pictures - saving them using the RAW option. Allied to this, you will require a suitable computer with Adobe Photoshop CS3 installed. This book is not going to teach you how to install and the basics of CS3 - so those skills will have to be mastered before you take the next step.

That next step is this book and the only way to appreciate the content is to sit down at you PC (or laptop) and start at the first page. It's a slow process but all journeys commence with the first step.

Laid out in a manner which allows the reader (user) to build on each lesson as they progress, this book may be turgid in places but, at least you can go back and go over any point again and again until mastered.

Quite frankly, if this was the only book on the subject you ever consulted, there would be very little missing from your overall skills once the content has been digested "and" fully understood.
