What an incredible book. Packed with more info than I could imagine about watercolor. Just the facts. No preaching, no showing-off, just insightful, direct help on making great watercolor. Bravo to the author.

This book is wonderful. Watercolour is new to me, I usually work in oil or acrylic as watercolour seemed to difficult to master. The information on pigments and why they behave they do was a great benefit as it demonstrated how to use each pigment to its advantage. There are colour charts, but not the usual boring colour wheel stuff. The example showed the strength and discrepency in colours available and how you can work with them. The photos of finished work are not the faint soft type that may normally be associated with watercolour. THey are bold , bright and inspiring.
There is a terrific example of how choosing the right colour scheme can iimpact on your finished work. a cat is the subject painted in eight different colour schemes.
As someone who was not confident in watercolour, this gem of a book has changed that. Highly recommended.

I fell in love with this book after seeing it at a store. Great examples and good explanations. Its a delight to look through and actually makes one excited to work with color.

This is one book no artist should be without. I shared it with my watercolor instructor at our community college and she ordered it right away. By reading the codes on various paints you can understand exactly which colors you have even though the names are different! All the examples are very easy to understand as per triads/analogous etc. Love this book!

this book offers beautiful illustrations and plenty of inspiration - i brought it to my painting class and we passed it around with plenty of ooos and aahhs...
it also gives very technical and specific information about setting up a pallet and mixing colors...i learned how to read the fine print on paint labels and what it all means (and why i should care)...
my only warning is that clearly this book has been written by a very creative person. as a result, the top portion of a page may follow one logical lesson, while the bottom of that same page is discussing something entirely different. and each "story" may continue for two or three pages, so you find yourself turning back a lot to reread and keep up with what's going on.
the technical parts are interesting, it gives specific instructions on specific colors and how to mix them, however honestly the pictures are so inspirational i couldnt wait to start painting so i'd end up looking at the pictures and dropping the book to get to my own brushes!
overall i am very happy that i purchased this book and i expect to turn to it over and over again for many years to come!
