Jordan: Past and Present will be of particular interest to Western readers, who rarely have the opportunity to visit the ancient monuments of Petra, Jerash, and Amman. The archaeological history of the Kingdom of Jordan and of each of the three principal Jordanian sites are carefully and clearly explained, and then each of the monuments-among them the Theater, Nymphaeum, Temenos Gate, and funerary monuments in Petra; the Arch of Hadrian, Sanctuary of Artemis, South Theater in Jerash; and the Temple of Hercules in Amman-are pictured as they exist today with overlays showing how they likely looked when still intact.

Jordan: Past and Present: Petra, Jerash, Amman is an easily handled (i.e. not huge) spiral-bound book of wonderful photos and clear overlays which compare and contrast the 'now' and the 'then' of these ancient sites. The views are stunning. There is also wonderful, informative text. A must for any traveler to Jordan, or an interested armchair traveler.

This is a nice memento to have after a visit to Jordan.
Not the best construction or printing, but fun to lift
the pages to see before and after images. Available in
Jordan for an inflated price. Save your money and get it
here.

Got this book before visiting both Petra and Jerash, it was a great help in picturing how things may have looked in the past. It was a great guide, well written, with outstanding illustrations, published and a product of Jordan.

Highly recommend it.

Loved this book as a quick guide. The overlays added to the visual effect. I acrually carried this with me on a hike through Petra and was able to identify several locations by the photos.
