Personality is key when developing your wardrobe, and the same is true when creating a unique decorating scheme for your home. The Well-Dressed Home will guide you in identifying your personal fashion style and then inspire you to use the same creative influences to design your home decor. Tatum reveals eleven of the most universal fashion styles, including romantic, couture, classic, casual, bohemian, retro, and modern, and encourages you to use the colors, fabrics, textures, and patterns characteristic of these aesthetics to decorate your home.
From an eco-bohemian chic loft in New York City to a home in the Hollywood Hills filled with vintage-romantic flea market finds, these enviable rooms will show you how to style your home to reflect your eye for fashion. Tatum understands style contradictions, too, and shows how to express them boldly and beautifully. By layering your inspirations, you can create a space that reflects your style and the styles of those with whom you share your home.
Illustrated with more than two hundred lush, full-color photographs, The Well-Dressed Home is the perfect resource for fashion enthusiasts looking to infuse a sense of their personal style into their homes. | Average Customer Rating: Can't Stop Looking At It! I loved how this book had decorating styles divided and titled. When I saw the pictures for "vintage casual", I knew it was me. The fact that she described it as decorating with the feel of "homecoming queen" got into my head and I now feel so much more comfortable shopping and decorating. That's the theme for me. Tons of other well-described decorating styles with amazing pictures. And comparing it to fashion? Genius! More than just a pretty cover! Honestly, the cover had me hooked...waited a day, and HAD to purchase. I am so impressed with the contents, too. Annette Tatum goes into detail regarding the various types of styles and how they relate to your wardrobe and your home. You may find your classic way of dressing also seen in your home, whether in the details or the entire surroundings. This book helps you to peg your style(s) and opens your thoughts to all the nuances that go into The Well Dressed Home. I was initially worried that I had fallen in love with the photos, and like some politicians, the book would turn out to be an empty suit (or should I say couture dress?). What a gratifying surprise to find the contents so insightful and informative...(I am still reading and learning quite a bit). Beautiful book and very satisfying. Love it I love interior decorating and design, but find myself to be in a tough spot when it comes to pinpointing my personal decorating style. I tend to like almost everything (modern, minimalistic, classic, french country, romantic etc.). This book takes an interesting approach to interior decorating in how it categorises different styles. It shows collages for each style so that it is easy for me to at least try to pinpoint my personal style, what I like the most or in what kind of a room I would like to sit in with my wardrobe or mood.
The collages in this book are made with a thought, and not like in many cases just to sell books with pretty pictures. However, I didn't find all of the collages to be what I would consider to be of that certain style, but I could still easily see the elements of each style in the collages, which I think is great. The collages don't for example focus on all the possible colors for a particular style. For example the classic collage contains mostly cognac and brown shades and I think you could add some colors of the other styles to classic, for example some colors of the casual style. Therefore some styles for at least for my husband seemed to be something that he would skip because of the colors in that collage, although I know he would like for example the classic style if the colors were different or if different styles were mixed and matched with that style. I guess you need to see the forest from the trees and my husband has just recently found the edge of the forest.
The book also goes deeper in describing what is essential to the different styles and the descriptions are written well for my taste. I am usually the kind of person who doesn't like to read too much, but buy books to get ideas. However this is one book that I have read from start to beginning, just for the fun of reading. This book is something that I am glad to add to my collection of interior decorating books. No money wasted on this purchase and it is difficult for me to find the next book to buy after this book has raised the bar pretty high. Brains & Beauty The Well Dressed Home offers SCRUMPTIOUS pictures, yet is a great reference book to show my clients because the advice is also practical. Love the combination of Brains & Beauty in a book! Well done. Loving the well-dressed home The Well-Dressed Home explains the art of expressing one's self in their home decor by first understanding their fashion sense. I love it because, for me, being well-dressed (whether it's in jeans or couture) is important. However, being well-dressed and knowing that my home reveals my fashion tastes also, feels very satisfying. I want my homes first impression to be as wonderful as my personal first impression. This book helps you to visualize and realize both. | |
